i tried updating my phone via NSU and FOTA but to no avail. NSU says that i have the latest firmware and FOTA says that there are no available updates. I was able to update to v.31.0.101 some days ago via FOTA.

You will have to change the product code with something like Jaf or Nemesis Service suite.

is the new firmware going to be available for Asian versions of the 5800xm after a week or so? i wouldn't want to change the product code of my phone as of now because it might void the warranty.

Who knows ??? Nokia are useless when asked.
Changing the product code should only effect the warranty if they find out, plus once you have updated you can then change it back to your original.
