It may be unfair to say this but, how far back should we go? Why stop at 98? Why not go back to 95? 3.0?

Seriously though, I can see his point though. To him it seems as if the P800 is FORCING him to upgrade his current version of Windows. And also I realise that if I was in the same situation that I might be a bit peeved to.
But what needs to be understood is that WinNT is an outdated OS now. I think (don't know for sure so nobody quote me on this) that even MS don't provide much support NT version 3.whatever anymore...heck they don't even do an MCSE for any version of NT!
So I guess then this could be one of the reasons why you should upgrade, because if you do it later like in a few years time you will become even more frustrated with other problems that arise and also at the TOTAL lack of support from any company (either software or hardware).
Times change and things change, if it didn't we wouldn't have PCs and we'd all be sitting here with a piece of chalk and slate, the cavemen probably didn't want to upgrade from that either but that's another thread....

I think SE is doing the right thing to stop developing software for Win98 as there are far better alternatives(W2k, XP). Isn't the WinME driver working? Win98 and WinME is the same crap so the should be compatable? But it's both M$-systems so ya never no.
But it would be really nice with official support for Linux, AmigaOS and so on.

Some things in life you just don't have control over!!! Have you all considered that? I work for one of the largest Banking institutions in this small world, and there are not just yet ready to make the leap. I guess, my company is the last company on earth running NT. I am not concerned for my home PC, as I am running XP there....
Also, I know that MS is ceasing support for WinNT by June 2003. That leaves a company another year or so to fully upgrade. TO, SE, that's one full year without being able to sync at work!...phew...a real waste..i say
Oh...have you not seen USB to Serial adapters???

Actually, rather than complain to SE, you should complain to your company's IT dept. Afterall, they are the worse evil of the two. I put up a big question back then about the lack of technology advancement in our IT dept which was causing compatibility problems with other companies, and they moved on to 2k.

Thanks Brick, these things I do on a regular basis, actually part of my job to scream at IT. however, my company has over 80,000 employees running a very strict rules on what can be implemented. There are in the process to jump W2K and going straight to XP, but working on a special built, which allows more control. So until that's resolved that could take another year, bearing in mind, that hardware also needs to be upgraded. For now, my NT has lack of USB, but still have serial, bluetooth and IR. So you you circumvent the lack of USB in NT.
Sorry, and I can't give up on my company's network, cause that's where I need the PDA functionality. i am now looking at a hybrid....Synch at work with my PPC & Lotus Notes, then synch again at home with PPC and Outlook XP, then finally synch Outlook XP and the P800........ that's what you call "Living on the Edge of Technology" *Sighs...and goes back and enters an appointment into his Black Diary Book ....

Oh, if your device doesn't have USB (the physical plug) at all... why not get the Serial DCU-10 cable of Ericsson? My old one works just fine with the same software of the P800. (I had an old serial cable for my R520, and T68i) ... it works just fine since the USB cable isn't really USB, it uses the USB plug to emulate a serial port.
I hope you find a way around it!
The software that comes with the P800 can be set to monitor all comm ports on a PC.. including virtual, and IR comm ports. Then the SW itself can be configured to sync w/ either Outlook or Lotus. Please let me know if this works with your office setup.
