I think you are a bit unfair here. X10 has got perhaps around 6-10 minor updates so far, so how can you say you have seen hardly anything ?

I pretty much want what Jplacson listed above, given these features root would be unnecessary for me!

Considering the amount of time that SE is taking to roll out 2.1 for the X10, I believe it's going to be the final OS upgrade for the X10. That's the reason SE is trying to get some Android 2.2 features backported onto 2.1 for the X10.

rjs, right? I mean, I understand that the X10 Mini has hardware limitations. It's not exactly the highest spec Android phone out there... but I would like the features that are practical. (I'm not really into live wallpaper... in all honesty, I made a simple carbon fiber wallpaper for mine, then I eventually just made a plain black one with a small gradient at the bottom)

I do want my menu and apps to respond faster... I also hope they fix the jumping scroll... where a page just scrolls non stop sometimes... hahahaha

and TETHERING!!!! I like barnacle, but official tehtering would be so much better since I don't need to do the music-player-in-the-background fix.

I think he's being perfectly fair. While the world has moved onto 2.2, you're glad with petty updates? X10 should have had froyo a month ago, and look where it is at the moment.

I agree as well.. it would've been ok if they didn't brag about it being an Android phone...

But if you're gonna advertise it having the latest and greatest OS... you'd better make sure to give the current version.

Google already has done most of the work! What excuse could they have?!?!?!

Both Nokia and Apple have shown that good software can make or break your product.

has ALWAYS had really slow inhouse software devs... I was hoping this would be eliminated when they adopted UIQ and Android... but alas... it seems that sticking to old software is inherent in their corporate blood. UIQ, was a change though, features and speed that exceed Android 1.6 on any of their Xperia line.

I'm even hoping they just release drivers... and a raw 2.2 ROM straight from Google. Kinda like how you can clean install Windows and just get drivers for your devices. Home Screen, Timescape, and Mediascape should just have been apps that you can download.

Not at all. Supporting software is not just about bringing new OS versions, but also continuosly improving and making bug fixes of the current one. Sitting with the latest and greatest OS rendered with bugs, which never get fixed is not fun at all.

it IS about bringing the latest OS version. What are you talking about man? There is absolutely no excuse for SE to not have a X10 with froyo right now. You argument would hold weight if there were other flagships sitting on 1.6 but thats not the case. The desires, the milsetones, the nexus have all gotten the froyo treatment.
And whatever updates SE is bringing, they all pale in comparison to what Froyo has to offer. The massive 4'' screen is utterly useless if it cant open 50% of the webpages since they contain some form of flash content. And what about the general phone performance and web browser speed improvement in froyo? X10 wont be getting that either. You can argue that its hard to update to froyo since SE has its custom UI on top, but then again pretty much every other manufacturer has some form of custom UI as well.

Seems like flash for Xperia shall be ported to the 2.1x update due to be received later this year. And export to SD has already been ported to this update. I personally prefer installing the apps in the internal NAND given it is way ,more faster than SD can ever be.
