Many have done this before without any luck.
Its over for SE, bad management has destroyed this once glories company.
I never liked the idea of S joining with E because E had so much ready for the future.
But S wanted their own things, MSD (M2), overbranding, willing to gain marketshare by selling bad quality low level phones.
And then the killed UIQ, then the chose for WM, lack of develoment in terms of android, hardware, innovation, ...

I hope Sony takes over E's charges and then we'll see the end of the once so great company Sony, which in my mind started to die once they cancelled all special R&D (like Aibo)

i had a great discussion with a swedish designer just some weeks ago (no he never worked for ericsson)
he even told me that former ericsson designers wanted to sue sony ericsson at some point (they should have done it)
we came to the same conclusion as bart
the saddest thing probably is that europe has lost now two great companies, nokia & ericsson

but i still want to add something here
this petition is nonsense

feature phones are dead (and their OS is dead), but if they want to sell low cost phones from ODMs its okay - se doesn't have the resources to actually make these on their own
the world moved on
heading backwards to the glory past(which past???) is no option
if you want to have a successful sony ericsson you need to be smarter then the market(lets be honest, sony ericsson was never smarter then the market ... ericsson was)
yes, currently everything is android winmob driven (at least the none apple side) - we need to find a way to be innovative again - this is what se currently fails (really hard) (but so do the others)
se just doesn't have the buisness balls(sorry) to lead or innovate again (and i guess that they also don't have the trust from sony)
reviving old brands (cybershot walkman) is not necessary
again, the world moved on

Apple seems to be settled with having one mobile phone (for now)
SE have always brought a whole bunch of models to the market and not seldom launching several models at the same time.
LG, Motorola, Nokia and Samsung does so too.

It is just that non of those, including SE, having a pocket friendly and classic all-rounder (with the execption for the Elm/Hazel duo) for sale just now. (I'm willing to jump ship to get me a phone of my desire)

A non-android/WP7, or more correctly using a "OS" the Elm/Hazel or the new "Txt" and "Txt Pro".
Incorporating some of the functions of the Walkman and Cybershot from past models.
(Hopefully keeping industrial designers and stylers away from the phone)

Don't you realise that this petition will not affect Sony Ericsson's product strategy by the slightest? These are corporate-level decisions that are purely based on sales numbers and competing strategies, not some random third-party petition with dubious reliability?

I agree Nightblade but at the same time I think have shown to be more attentive to what gets said in forum and blogs - some of their decisions recently could be attribluted to how bloggers and online forums have reacted to some of their actions.

We could mention the bootloader unlocking and also the way they were slammed for launching the X10 range with Donut, which didn't go down to well at all and for which they probably paid a heavy price for.

However, Android is booming at the moment and would be wise run with Android while there is this phenomenal growth of this OS.

I'd be surprised if they dropped OSE altogether, Cedar is a nice phone with a good camera, HD Voice and a good set of features but as long as Smartphones are the order of the day, phones like Cedar will be a niche product and they could be for a while if the price of Smartphones continues to fall.
