By the way, Android is not a global powerhouse because of Adobe Flash. It's because it offers choice to the masses, it offers different pricing range for different target groups and offers an open-ended way of using one's device. Apple, has none of these traits and will continue to not have them. How's that for differentiation

You're quite right, Android isn't a "powerhouse" because of flash, and that's obviously a point not lost on adobe, hence their announcement. It's the world's number one simply because it offers one of the closest experiences you can get to an iPhone, in an OS which is given away for free by its developer (as part of a wider marketing strategy) and can therefore be made available at a wide variety of price points by a wide variety of manufacturers.

No more, no less.

Look, long before Henry Ford commercialized the automobile industry there were a number of others who made cars but didn't quite get it right. So other manufacturers from Honda to Ferrari built on what worked because that's what technology is all about. If only Mr. Jobs had grasped the concept of technology for the betterment of the world. Btw, my wife (and a million others) hates the call answer slider so I just downloaded an app for her to answer with hardware key simply because someone said they wanted something. No more, no less

huh? what has Honda and Ferrari making cars after Ford got to do with "betterment of the world"? (btw, betterment!?).

and honestly, I appreciate personal choice as much as the next but "hating" a slider to answer a call in preference to a pressing a button is a little extreme. Too many people these days (millions apparantly) are getting way too upset over such trivial things in life when there is so much more that is important and meaningful for your "betterment of the world"! but... its good that a simple app download made these people lives oh! so much better

reality check needed methinks...

Betterment means improvement Yes, I believe something that works should be made available to others be it improvised or just the way it's supposed to be. My point about the call answer app is Android has enough to differentiate itself from other platforms because it is moulded by the people as opposed to being moulded by the platforms which is how it has always been traditionally. I think this is a fair point to make

God these topics always get side tracked to Apple vs the world...getting boring now.

Regarding adobe i guess with html5 it was only a matter of time, my question is what use will adobe have on the computer that html5 would not?

If the "betterment of the world" really relies on the state of mobile devices, then I think any sane person would give at least some credit the iPhone and Jobs (who, ironically, very much did believe in the power of technology to improve things). Without the iPhone, Android would be utterly unrecognisable now, if indeed it existed at all - and smartphones would be in far, far fewer hands, whether sliding to unlock or not.

@Boinng
Everyone who's converted to the Apple religion seems to have this tone nowadays even my usually docile cousin turned nasty recently. Nobody's denying your god's (Jobs) contributions that had inspired Android. I think nowhere in my earlier posts did I deny that so chill. My point is, eventhough building on Apple technology (happy?) Android has managed to differentiate itself and managed to go down a road where Apple wouldn't. So they're now the leaders, and that's business for ya. Competition is after all healthy ain't it?

My point is the main differentiation between Android ad IOS is price, and the ability of android manufacturers to serve a number of lower price points (because OS development is sponsored by google, and fragmentation across lower-end cheaper hardware isn't considered an issue). Those are the reasons why Android as an
OS was always going to sell more that iOS, not the presence of Flash or the "freedom" or any of the other claims eulogised around here.
