Stable ? Yes.

Easy ? No not really, needs some PC know how, and getting the right files.

You downgrade to PR1 then upgrade to whatever version of the firmware you want, there are a lot of tutorials out there, Google is your friend

Search downgrade N8 firmware.

If they found out it would invalidate your warranty, but once you are back to the correct firmware, be it older they have no way of knowing.

If i remember right i had issues installing Joikuspot when i first updated to Belle, but somehow i found a way around it. As for the email, have you tried going into the settings for each mailbox, going to the auto retrieve option and then scrolling up ? it amazing how when you go into this menu the top displayed option is 15 minutes but theres actually an option called soonest which i assume is for pushed messages.

I do agree however that the widgets are sometimes too large or too small. Belle was meant to give us resizable widgets but they've now been put off until the Belle feature pack coming later this year. Apparently. Since now i can have 6 homescreens i find it actually easier to have a whole homescreen devoted to calendar and contacts, one for apps, one for email accounts and one for social apps.

As for your message inbox going back to the homescreen, this is how mine works. If i go into the messaging app from the homescreen it goes homescreen > conversations view > girlfriend (for example i click on her messages). If i then press back, it goes back to the list of conversations. This makes sense to me as i want to go back..

Now, if i receive a message i click on the notification to open the message, read it and then press back it goes straight back to the homescreen. Which again makes sense to me. Its intuitive that when you're alerted to read a message you get the option to reply or go back to standby. If i had to mash the back button several times it would be counter-intuitive. I think Nokia have really thought it through rather well.

Anna and previous versions of Symbian were more productive i agree, but Belle hasnt lost that productivity its simply streamlined the interface to make it more attractive and a joy to use to the average user. I was rather happy with Symbian 3 even before Anna and to this day find it much more powerful as a work tool than Android or iOS from Apple.

Btw, one last note of caution, if you downgrade you'll more than likely lose the camera interface update and improved video quality. For a phone like the N8 i dont think any imaging sacrifice is worth it.

Maybe Ill stick with it.... I'll try your idea of separate screens for certain types of stuff... the ONE and ONLY thing really holding me back is the pull down... i really find that VERY VERY nice.... and I know if I go back to Anna, Ill miss it! ..... Fine, you talked me into it, I won't jump ship on Belle quite yet but man are some of those thing frustrating!

...Back on Topic.

I'll say I agree with etaab that the "thought" put into Belle is superior but I still like the Anna functionality best.

I've done this several times myself. You use Phoenix, and you downgrade first to 11.005 (a pre-release version). Then you can upgrade to any version you want.

I thought going back to Anna wouldnt bother me that much but a couple of weeks after i updated to Belle i got hold of a friends N8 who is still running Symbian 3, not even Anna (she wont let me update it for her). I couldnt believe how clunky Symbian is now ive got used to Belle.

I dont think Belle has lost any functionality at all, in fact its gained imo.

The one thing i love about belle is being able to turn off mobile data and wifi from the notifications pane. Ive lost count the amount of times when on anna i found an app still connecting to the internet when i didnt want it to or it didnt need to. The only control you had was to turn off the widgets on your homescreen and not apps running in memory.
