If you're getting the Optimus G then updates would be your main concern, its been out a while now and we have yet to hear about any update plans for it from LG WRT Android JB, same story with the Optimus 4X HD.

It would seem that CyanogenMod 10 is being tweaked to support this model.

I just dont like the custom ROM route, personally, even if its Cyanogen, you are bound to run into strange issues, at least thats my experience.

Just picked up Optimus_G

Tasks:
Root - duh!
Migrate Data from iOS into Android ~ Why did I ever use iOS again?? (Games, simplicity and OSX Compatibility; I'm on Win7 now).
Nova Launcher,
Screen lock password.
Media Sync, test music playback on headphones with remote and calls.

2days usage then onto CM10.1.

Yeah; I agree with Bonovox. Picture quality and cool apps also add on to Optimus G. You can also check this app that gives chance to win a new Optimus G. https://www.facebook.com/lgindiapage/app_488286947895270

Alright ... after 2.x years I yet again pickup this beauty.

Unfortunately the one I got is nowhere near the one I had from my old employer, this one was $80 and has seen much better days, but I figured I'd get back into looking what Android had to offer, for me.

So I take a look and I realize I HATE KitKat ... horrible standard OS and if LG keeps doing this to the Android OS it would suck!

Ok ... so I do the following:
Root using SuperSU ... sweet.
I download to the PC FreeGee - realizing no longer needed after 2hrs last night but I'm tired and I say screw it.
So I download FreeGee directly on the LG ... Bootloader unlocked. Sweet.
I copy the zip file for the CM 12.1 for Android 5.1, I think it's for 5.1 but the subsequent events may tell I'm wrong.
(File: cm-12.1-20150521-UNOFFICIAL-geeb)
Now, device installs the OS and reboots successfully. Sweet jesus this looks beautiful! I navigate around the menu and I think all is good and a few icons I have no clue what is going on with the one in the tray on the bottom right.
So I launch it and it goes through first page of info and I realize it's Google's Camera which saves everything in the cloud ... NOT a fan of that, and there is a check box to disable location information I disable it.

I exit the Google Camera app and then the screen goes blank. I see 3 Red LED blinks in the notification light and 6hrs later I STILL cannot power it on!!!
1. Can't power it on!
2. Can't get Bootloader to show up (the one with the Android heart exposed)!!
EEEK.
3. Just the damn LED blinking, consistent blink!!
4. I try Volume UP/DOWN buttons, connect USB to the G, then to Win7 and nothing!

I suspect Google Camera trying to connect to Google's services which may NOT be in CM12.1 for this device. I also suspect since I installed the CM12.1 with the USB connected it tried to connect using ADP, which I feel it KEEPS doing in Win7. I have the factory drivers and the updated drivers NOTHING fully works; just the connect then immediate disconnect chime in Win7.

Anyone have a solution to load even the factory OS which is a boot.img file?

Woah! That doesn't sound good.

In a situation like this my 1st move is to download a stock factory FW of the phone and flash it. I am not sure if Odin is used with LG's, but its what we use to flash Samsungs, but you say that your PC is not even seeing the phone.

Maybe try find a way to reset the phone with the buttons. I don't want to say the phone is hard bricked, but it sort of sounds like it.
Maybe also try taking out the battery for a little while (30mins or so) then put it back in and try boot up again.

I would head to XDA Developers and go to the Development section of your paticular model if nothing else helps.

Sorry I cannot be much of help, I stopped using Custom ROMs a few years ago, I found that each time I did I always found something missing, or ran into very strange issues and/or was never fully happy with something.

Good and sound advice ... I appreciate your time in helping.

Unfortunately ODIN which is for this device and many many others didn't even recognize the phone either. I used my torx kit and removed the battery for an entire day, then back in ... nothing. Funny as it DOES recognize charging (LED blinking) but that's all.

All manner of button combo's for reset ... nothing works 3 PC's used in Windows 7 and all 7 threads in developers for this phone via XDA ... nothing worked. Great quide, site, crew but nothing.

Hard Bricked and already in the recylce bin on the way to eletronic heaven.

I'll retry to the OG Nexus 4 ... a final time (3 short times before and was good but Android was never as good as it is now). I'll await to see what Motorola (Moto Maxx; evolved), LG, HTC, and Sony bring later this year or in Spring next year to spend hard earned $$ on Android.

Why?
- because BlackBerry is a fools errand to keep trying and trying and even too many rumors of them securing Android themselves as a mass market OS and BB10 for Enterprise in the next 4mths. Also iOS is getting "OK" but the hardware design's are getting long in the tooth, I don't like iPhone 6 design and I fear this falls will be pretty much the same with a different paint scheme, even the cases just don't do it justice.

Sorry to hear nothing worked.

If you want a very good device for the money, may I suggest the LG G2? That has to be the very best of LG's efforts in the last 2-3years. Its Nexus 5 hardware, plus a bigger battery and better display.

Good suggestion, unfortunately the Canadian dollar is not faring too well against the US$ ($1.35CAN highest in over 12yrs). This means it's a sellers market in Canada, and a buyers market in the USA.

LG G2 is currently fetching $260-350CA in mine & neighboring cities.

The Nexus 5 (OG) 16GB I'm looking at $220-300.

Yet, for an Asus Zenfone 2 - Black (ZE551ML-23-4G64GN-BK)
- 5.5", Intel 2.3GHz, 4G RAM, 64G Storage $379.00 tax inclusive BNIB at the store.

So I've got a LOT to consider. Personally I still like the Motorola Moto Maxx 2015 model (not that X Play soon to replace it with crappier specs. Yes I know, 'crappier' is NOT a word but it explains motorola's angle on this perfectly).

OnePlus2 is sweet fingerprint sensor BUT no NFC, assinine!!
