yep, had the same problem, upgraded my motherboard yesterday, problem solved, seems to me that slower (1200mhz and less) pc don't support xp/p800 combination
LOL! A 386 could do it!(if equipped with a usb port)

there are many different ways of troubleshooting this, but I would start with making sure that another USB device works in the same PC.
Did you uninstall any other mobile phone software?
Have you got the correct USB drivers for your motherboard installed? (Not just the XP ones on newer systems)
Have you got any processes running in the background (such as scanner / printer software) which are holding the ports?
Have you got any irq conflicts in Device Manager?
Just some things for you to try.

I have Windows 2000 w/service pack 3....system crashes and/or freezes with PC Suite version 1.1.1 loaded. No problems..so far when software uninstalled. I have emailed Sony...hopefully can get resolution.

finaly after two weeks of testing , it works now... I had the wrong BIOS update from ECS (viachipset, mobo k7vza according to ecs website I had to stick with version1.* ,that didn't work and I thougt what the hell let's try version 3.*)

Glad you got it sorted... although its mildy concerning that you had "the wrong bios"...
Just a quick pointer - try not to quote so much text when there isn't any reason to do so... it just increases the time taken for those accessing this on a handheld device.
