I only mean local software firewalls as the PC communicates with the phone over TCP/IP apparently.
You got any dodgy looking items in Device Manager?

Everything looks good on the hardware side.
I checked the hub readings, it tells me that the DCU-11 is drawing 100ma. So that says it's all correctly intouch with the PC.
I wish bloody SE would get back to me.
Does anyone know what there turnaround is on technical querys?
I hope I'm not waiting weeks.

I've recived a second e-mail from SE saying that the message has been passed on to technical, and they will be getting back to me within 48 hours... Whats the chances that it doesn't include the weekend in that equation?

guys please read carefully!!!
i had the same problems connecting my p800 to my pc(OS XP), the connection link it says connected but when trying to sync it says not connected, it really drove me crayze i tried everything, i even called sonyericsson technical support, but as many as you knows they have no f*cking clue when it comes to the p800, anyway, after good 10hours of frustration and trynig to find out what the hell is going on, i finally find it, and if you follow my steps maybe it will resolve the problem.
1>instal the latest pc suite from sonyericsson website.(if u did so skip)
2>connect the cradle to the usb port.(if it says driver found good, otherwise insert the pc suite cd).
3>now go to your toolbal on your pc, and if you have any(and i mean any) firewall program like norton internet security i(n my case) right click on it and disable the program.
4>now go back to your toolbar on you pc, and right click on phone connection link, and click properties, and disconnect the com port connected to your cradle, and wait 10 seconds, and then connect again and wait another 30 seconds and it will connect the phone and BAM your p800 is now connected.
5>now after successful connection you can go ahead and enable you firewall.
****you will need to repeat step 3,4 and 5 everytime you restart your pc.
now just to let everybody knows this is the only resolution i found (in my situation), so keep and mind it may works it may not. so good luck to all, and please if it did work, make sure you reply to the post.

Thanks but I have also tried that. I'm really considering taking the phone back (Even though I love the phone more than my missus
) to the store and wait for the siemens to come out.
So has everyone had this sort of problem with this particular phone?

I went into Carphone warehouse today, as I've only had my phone for 8 days I thought i'd get them to just give me a new cradle.
Sadly the shop near my work doesn't stock things like the p800, and I'm going to have to go back to the main shop that I bought it from.
IF this is a hardware problem, with either the phone or the cradle then really it should be treated much like a broken phone, as the USB connection is one of the main features behind the phone.
I'm starting to lean toward the hardware fault, as the problem occured on both my PC's at the same time, which seems awfully strange if it's anything but that.
The quest continues....
End note:
Why did I remove all my mame and scumm roms from my phone just before the cradle mess up happened

@xpmillinium
I tried your step-by-step guide. Sadly to no effect. My phone still does not get recognised.
