mp3PRO use is correct... I use Nero and Musicmatch software which both support "mp3PRO" as opposed to regular "mp3", with mp3PRO you can have a file with the bitrate of 80kbps which is equal to a regular mp3 file at 128kbps but the file size is about 38% smaller, so you can fit more songs in the same space, you can also go lower in bitrate with only a slight degredation in quality as opposed to regular mp3. Now if you have regular mp3's musicmatch pro supports file conversion, so you can convert your regular mp3's with ease... It just Kicks ass!!! So give it a try...

Can't agree more!!
64Kb/s Stereo Ogg is just as good as 128 Kb/s MP3

The Ogg Player is far, far superior to SE's very poor attempt at a media player that comes with the phone.

Ogg all the way .......

I agree that the Audio player is very inferior to OggPlay but like most people I have a lot (7600 last time I checked) of Mp3s, so I use Unreal Player for those & I use OggPlay for all my Oggs which I've encoded myself from my own CD collection.

MP3/OGG is one aspect of the P800 I've yet to try - tonight's the night however, and I've just downloaded some ripper software to try out some CDs of my own.

Now the missus can have the MD player by the pool, andI'll have the phone....BTW - it *is* insured!!

@Steve,

My Advice:
-Get dbPowerAmp inc Ogg Codec
-Rip a bunch of your cds using a variable bit rate averaging 64-80kps (make sure you tag them properly)
-Get OggPlay! V0.9
-Get a 2.5mm -> 3.5mm Stereo adapter (www.pc-mobile.net are good guys- check 'em out)
-Get yourself a decent pair of headphones. Sennheiser make some really nice ones (I have 2 pairs)
-Get a 128mb Duo
-Put ur Oggs onto your Duo using a Memory Stick reader (you'll fit 4 or 5 albums)
-Listen to a couple of hours of high quality music!

@Bogus Jimmy

-Got dbPowerAmp inc Ogg Codec
-Gonna rip a bunch of my cds, using as you suggest a variable bit rate averaging 64-80kps
-Got OggPlay! V0.9
-Will try the above out first, and will then go get a 2.5mm -> 3.5mm Stereo adapter (from www.pc-mobile.net)
-Got a decent pair of headphones
-If I'm happy with OGG player, I'll definitely go get a 128mb Duo, and a stick reader (a mixed one for reading my CF cards)

But...

"-Listen to a couple of hours of high quality music!"

...is that all I'll get off one charge?

Cheers,

Steven.

@Steve

I just said that without really thinking. If your 4 albums total 3 or 4 hours of music then you would be able to listen to them all twice quite easily from one charge.

Your welcome.
Catchya.
