Going back to a previous post above, the TV tuner sounds awesome. I did see (on a chinese site so only saw the pictures!) a modified SE P800 which had a new battery case cover that had a slot for a full-size memory stick! Obviously made the thing look rather obese, but still...
I'm assuming that the TV tuner is not going to work 'straight out of the box', but will some guru programmers out there ever be able to make it work? What would be involved and are there any initial show-stopping technical issues that anyone can think of?

forget the T.V. tuner i want sky built in and a duo romote contrule when not in use just slips in the duo port nice a?
If u wanted to make a T.V. duo a hole new duo would have to be made (i can see it sticking out the side for reception) and then software that would be installed on in built memory to use the tuner.
I think it would take alot of people to do this, but i know id buy it even if it was £100

I agree with what your saying about porting titles. TombRaider would be a prime example. They're porting the 3d version to the n-gage and the pocketPC has a version thats just way cool. Where as the GBA can only manage a crappy 2D platformer with everyone's favourite amply breasted heroine. The game is basically PSone standard so think of a PSone game and you should be able to do a port. (no GTA3 then)
Once the majors publishers/distrbution houses start to see a profit of the tenative toe that some of them are dipping in the water then they'll start making an effort to port the games. Especially since they can save on distribution costs if you download the games. Of course we can always start firing odf
About your point of using GPRS to play wireless opponents. There's a little thing called latency that gets in the way of that. By the time you've sent the data to the other guy's phone he's moved and vice versa so you'll never get any 1st person shooter going, something more paced and staid but certainly not hectic.
I'd love a TV tuner as well. would kill the battery and would be a pain in the arse since i'd only watch it on the train. I'd be re-tuning every ten minutes. and lose reception in the tunnels. Better off using showshifter and recording last nights prime time shows etc. and whacking them on a Duo in mp4.

i was watching some game review programe, and they showed the nokia n-gage and the new 3300 (the N-gage's upgrade) with the game "pandemonium" which was one of the first 3D games out on the PS1 (i liket the game anyways)
and they also said that the people who had bought the 3650 could get software to play the N-gage games since they both have the MMC card slots which the N-gage will store its games... so i think i may get a 3650 simply because id rather have a phone that takes video with a built in camara then haveing to get the N-gage which has a pop-port and haveing to carry around my old 7210's HS-1C Pop-Port camara (i found it very anoying but i was only testing it out and soon went back to my T68i and then got my P800)
one thing i am wondering about though, how much will the games cost i mean if u want a java game on CD* they cost about £10 and there only 2D and these games are PS1 games so do u think they will cost £39.99 like the old PS1 games did cost before it got out dated by its brother the PS2?

You right about the graphics of p800 it's basicly a sp1 I mean look at the game intersteller flames for p800 it's great but because of space issues the game just sort of repeats itself with more enemies on screen at once. but if they shipped games on MS DUO's they could fit huge titles like tomb raider and the like, hey perhaps even Metal Gear :-}. what you were saying about the dial-up I have to disagree man, admittedly on GPRS there could be latency but if you use HSCSD you could potentially dial into a server justlike pc users and there should be no problem I mean if people with 33.6 modems can play online games why not i'd be perfect for RTS games or RPG's, and remember a while ago the 'experts' were saying that it would be impossible to play a fighting game online because of latency, but look the new online street fighter is being hailed as gaming marvel already, cheers,

2 Mbailey.
What's the link to that site. I would kill for being able to use the MS rather than the duo. (think whole movies/tons o music). Maybe even using the MS pro (1GB up!!!)
2 yusufl...
The whole storage issue is the main question. That could work in some ways' If you treat the MS like a cartridge (think N64/Megadrive/etc.) then the cost of the memory itself would fall as more production facilities are made available. An adapter like the one Mbailey mentioned would be better, but not what Sony are after, which sadly means that the P800 won't get the software from them at least to utilise the MSPro like other more recent Sony products can. It wouldn't bother me about the bus constaints that may be present since there fine with the duo. It's more the space.
With the latency issue it's definately something the major comanies are lookingat but probably won't be solved outside of the 3G services not GPRS. It would make sense, but the whole reasoning in these' companies is scewed due to the cost of the 3g licences. So they'd rather you have that killer app on the 3g service that you have to pay to upgrade to and cover they're costs.
That said, who would look forward to MGS, TombRaider, FIFA, etc.

The cost of the games would be cheaper than a PS1 game, ideally. The reason is Sony Licence there gaes in order to make up for the fact the PS2/PS1 cost more to make than they sold for. Since the developer/publishers don't have to pay a licence for games on the series 60/UIQ OS they shouldn't have to add to the price. That said though they'll come up with a nice and bloated figure to push there AAA conversions, think £29.99 that's what Tombraider cost on the PocketPC and most won't put in the ammount of work that went into tombraider. ie you'll get shitty conversions they'll try and fleece you with. Hey i'm just synical. but once the accountans and marketing men get hold of the bottom line on the mobile game market, that's what you'll get.
It'll be hey we've got all these old games gathering dust that we own, lets patch up nice an quick and throw them onto the market. Nice and cheap to get there and we'll use the reputation the games got on the PSone to milk the market. grrr i hate those guys.

The standard memory stick converter is at
http://www.p800er.com/product.asp?id=48 - it replaces the rear battery cover and adds several mm to the thickness of the phone.
A lot of people have already said that the SE P800 wouldn't be able to read above 128MB regardless of the stick type used, however I have no way of verifying this. Maybe email the suppliers?

i dont think the P800 is limeted to 128mb duo, for two reasons
1. they are allready makeing 264mb duos and 516mb duos and even 1gb duos so why would they limit there first device which features duos to only 128?
2. lets say we all go out and buy a 128mb duo, what would sony do with the bigger duos the market of the P800 users cant buy the bigger duos which would mean sony would lose money, and only the Net Man users would buy them sony would never do this to them selfs.
now u know the N-gage nokia are going to sell these games in the uk (and other places) on MMC cards, when the Psone came out the games where £39.99 now the games are £8.00 to £12.99 thats a big differnce and if the same games are gonna be on the n-gage i think nokia are going to want to make around the same money, the MMC cards cost more then PSone discs i can go into a shop and buy 1 blank CDR for 50p!! (at 700mb) if i want a MMC card im gonna be paying £51.99 to £79.99 and only get 128mb and so i think the games will cost around £39.99 or higher (maybe the same as the GBA and even the GBA dont got PSone games even though nintendo claim it is a 32bit machine)

ofcourse everyone has heard of longrange-bluetooth..
Is this some kind of "more powerfull bluetooth-module" Like it would b possible to actually play Metal Gear (for instance) vs another, pherhaps "unknown" P800 in da future..
cheers,
