> Polyphonic ringtones 16 24 32 40 ???

In fact, there're not many midi with 32 chords on Internet
Most of the Midi on Internet is below 16 chords
but I have some 128 chords midi come with my Live sound card

we have a great mobile with 32 chord but we can't enjoy it because most of the ring tones out there is 16?
so if someone hear me T610 ringing he will say it's the same as nokia
damn i want to take advantage of all the great feture's of this device

Actually this is not the case. 16 or 32 just indicates how many simultaneous notes it can play. It has nothing to do with the instrument count. Even if MIDI track has polyphony level of 16, it can have e.g. 64 instruments. The number of instruments and max. polyphony is not binded in any way.

Basicly the same MIDI track sounds the same in the different devices, but of course there might be some differences in the device acoustics and in the HW (speaker) which can cause the difference.

The track will sound different depending on the sound chip in the phone - hence the reason why stuff sounds better on the T100 than my GD87 - the instruments have been better sampled.

In case anyone cares, the Siemens S55 appears to have the exact same MIDI engine as the T300, eventhough it's only 16-note polyphony as opposed to 24-note polyphony.
The S55's speaker is much louder though.

It`s true that the number of polyphony has nothing to do with the number of instruments (if you have a polyphony limit of 32 you could for example play 5 notes on drums, 10 on piano, 7 on strings, 1 on bass, 5 on guitar and 4 on choir simultaniously)
There are MANY MIDI files that uses this amount of polyphony. If you try to play a Standard MIDI file with a greater polyphony than the phone supports, the phone will simply cut notes randomly, and the result is usualy crap.
So will a ringtone made for Nokia sound better on a SE with greater polyphony?
The answer is - it depends.
If it`s a Standard MIDI file it won`t, but both Nokia and SE phones support another format called SP-MIDI (Scalable Polyphonic MIDI) which was developed specificaly for mobile phones.
A SP-MIDI file is basicly a standard MIDI file with an extra code implemented. What this code does is determine which instruments to play on what phone. If it`s a phone with 4 tones polyphony, the composer has pre-programmed which instruments to play on that phone. And if the phone support 32 tones it`s the same thing.
This means that a SP-MIDI file can be made (and work well) for both a Nokia 3510 (4-tones) and a SonyEricsson T310 (32 tones), but of course sound better on the latter.

In MIDI format 1, which is most commonly used, one channel can include multiple tracks containing different instruments. For example MIDI files for Nokia MIDI enabled phones can include 65 different instruments.

MIDI format 0 merge all sequences into one track which is set to play back on "any" channel. One MIDI cannel can not play multiple instrument simultaniously, but you can change an instrument within a sequens by implementing a program change command. The sequense could then for example play a guitar sound first and then change to a piano sound, but the guitar and piano could not play on the same channel at the same time.

SCORRPION: I`m pretty sure the T310 has 32 tones polyphony. I made several of the ringtones that comes preloaded and some of the ones you can download from SE.
