According to the salesman in the Carphone Warehoue in Bluewater, the P800 is flying off the shelves and we are unlikely to see any price drop for it while demand is so high.....

Sorry but Nokia seldom releases phones on time. In the Netherlands the 8310 & 7210 where 2 months overdue. Okay I admit their clones (6510, 6610, 6100) where released on time. But who's waiting on more of the "Same shit, different wrapping" product.

Which would you prefer:

1) Some countries get it earlier, while some get it later
2) All get it later.

It's just a ridiculous argument that you are making. If SE wanted a World Wide Release date - it would be months down the track. Isn't it smart to release in some key markets first with your initial stock, rather than have them gather dust while making enough handsets to release elsewhere ?

I think the delay is even bigger matter than you think. Here in africa we get phones at least six month after the release date in key overseas markets. For instance I got my phone T68m last year 2002 first quarter, and six months later a T68i became available on our shelves. So it is difficult for SE to find a "ww released date" cause markets forces differ per country. It is even difficult in this part of the world to get software upgrades or other accessories, and prices are very high here by the way-ya. Nokia on the other hand is a phone for simple people, but I find nokias as less user friendly in comparison to SE phones or Ericsson phones. In this part of the world Nokia phones outsell SE.
