The prepaid calling cards numbers are free when called from a US SIM card. When u use ur roaming, you will be charged

I bought T Mobile Prepaid SIM when on vacation in FL recently, us$ 100 (!!!) for SIM + activation what a ripoff.

T Mo are the only ones offering SIM-only prepaid packages. I can't believe the US are so far behind in certain things

Good thing: T Mobile does allow SMS to europe

if you already had a phone that supported 1900 MHZ, you should have found a T-Mobile store, and asked for an EasySpeak SIM. It would have cost you a lot less. about $50. It includes the SIM and $30US of airtime.

The notion of prepay in the US is still a joke.Tmobile's service comes close to other prepay service from other non US wireless carriers but I hate the fact that your load is only good for a short time. Now with ATT you have to buy a prepackage phone including a sim card. But in order to purchase this phone you must have a social security number and a it defeats the whole PREPAID concept.

ok, so just buying a SIM cost you $100?? that is retarded. I went into a store, asked for an EasySpeak SIM, the associate took my info, asked what area code I wanted, put the card in my phone, got the OTA programming message, I paid, and had a working phone. I paid something like $52 after sales tax.

Apparently you were. Do not purchase SIM cards from anywhere other than a T-Mobile branded store.

Cingular also has prepaid GSM service. The trick is to get a SIM card from one of the independent retailers and I don't think you can find one of those in Bawlmer (I used to live there and their cellular concept is really 1980s).

Unfortunately, the situation is not much better in Washington, DC - I had to pay the full $70 for a prepaid SIm and initial airtime a while ago. However, try to shop around and hopefully you will be able to stumble upon one of the retail stores (try Chinatown in DC) that can give you a good deal.

I would not suggest you use your prepaid service to call via calling cards. You will be charged per minute even if you dial a 1-800 number. Payphones will let you speak for free or you can use someone else's phone.

Also, I recommend you try Amazon.com to get the feel of all the plans out there.

Anyway, good luck and keep us posted of your roaming success.
