If you want to access email from your Vodafone U.K. phone you need to either enable authentication for SMTP (username and password will be the same as POP setting - that's if your phone supports SMTP authentication), or if you are using Vodafone Mail (username@vodafone.net) you need to use 'send.vodafone.net' (212.183.156.230) as your SMTP server.
If you want access through GPRS, make sure you are using the 'internet' APN with a username and password of 'web' and 'web'.
