There is no question that the digits to the left of the "W" refer to the year (i.e 02 = 2002) and the digits to the right refer to the number of weeks for that year (24 = June). The problem lies when you have entries such as what Aikonoklast and I have on our phones (25W25). What do the digits to the left represent. I have another T68i with the code 21W21. Its warranty is until Feb. 2004.
Here in the Philippines, some service centers base the warranty period on these codes.
