the best bet is to leave the outlook settings alone, most isp's have a limit to how much you can store in the server, and once the limit is reached new mail will be rejected..
one method would simply be not to leave outlook running when away from the pc, as what is the point? your not there you cant read it till you get back, so dont run outlook when you are out you can then access it from your mobile

hi and thanks for all the help. just found the settings in outlook express and you are quite right. however, it has a very useful feature (for me that is) in that i can get it to delete items on the server after x days and also to delete deleted items. all of which would probably be ok for me. out of interest anyone know how many items ntlworld let you keep??

yes, I would hesitate turning on "leave a copy on server" unless you remember to remove them periodically as your mail will build up over time.
as stated already, best bet is to disconnet outlook express when your away from the machine, and then you can use the P800 to see what's on the server.
