I and other people have the line too. Look here:

For me there is no link between the line and charging. The line is always here...

@spike..I've heard one other pal talking about a dead pixel right in the middle of his screen. he couldn't get it fixed. he went and got a replacement unit. Screen was defect.

note, some tv's have it some dont.
Trinitron is a completely different technology than what is used in phones. On a trinitron screen you can see the line because there is an actual piece of string behind the glass.

aaaaaaaaargh. i spoke too soon. on sunday i turned on my phone and noticed a big rectangle, about 1/4 of the screen, near the bottom of the screen. it is on all screens & menus, most visible when using the camera. it doesn't completely block out everything else, just creates a darker colour shade over that area. i tried everything;-
-restarting phone
-switching off & leaving for 5mins
-switching off & taking battery out (and putting it back in & turning it on, of course)
but nothing had worked... now it only appears often, maybe 1/3 times i turn it on.

triniton screens have two line horizontal going over the screens that hold a mesh in place which light is then projected on to, making the image on the screen. It is like this to acheive a flat screen, without the two lines accross the screen they would have to put a bend in the screen allowing the mesh to be held by the bend of the screen.
plus you can only really see the lines on the screen on white background and they are not that much apparant. its a comprimise a flat screen for two little lines that you forget are even ther
if they used the same technology as they use on monitors and tvs on phones, try keeping your monitor or a tv in your pocket it wouldnt catch on would it? no!!!

i get the line, its not that bad, like you would use the phone as a real camera anyway! it sucks!
must be something to do with the way the image is processed, because it is not there while the camera is in motion / still before the take.
