> Bluetooth on = drain battery ?

Ok, let's see if I can help (first post here, I know I have no credit, but I do study Elec. Engineering at Imperial College...)
Bluetooth was developped with portable devices in mind. Infact, all of the 7 founders produce either mobile phones or handheld computers. BT works on a very high radio frequency, not used by any communication system and studied to not interfere with microwaves too. As it is meant to work only with another device, the application will run only when another BT device is in range, and will be totally off otherwise. Infact, if you spend a day at home with your BT on, the only thing to affect battery consumption with be the extra flashing LED. Things change slightly when going around. If, say, somebody is looking for BT devices and you're in their 10m (or 100m, depending on the device) connectivity bubble, then your BT will also go active, so if you go around somewhere where lots of people are using BT, your battery will resent it. Elsewise, nothing will change.
I hope this cleared some ideas up. If you have any questions about BT, I'll be happy to answer (I just made a study on it for Uni). You can email me at

Bluetooth is either ON or OFF. No automatic setting.
I can use Bluetooth everyday and Bluetooth is always on. I always use GPRS for intenet over bluetooth and I can get 3 days out of the battery no problems.......thats also using the camera functions, chaging themes, (which I seem to change like underwear) and genreal stuff like playing games. Of course there is that part where its a telephone too. I make/receive several calls also.
Who gives a toss anyway, if you were going away to a remote place, lets say camping in the bush or something well then youd turn a lot of those functions off, use your phone sparingly and youd get 5 days easy. Besides youd have a car and have the car charger anyway.
How far away does one get from a power source these days????
Put it this way the t610's battery is good enough to have IR, bluetooth, loud rings, play some games, surf the net and take lots of pictures as much as you want provided you return from your prehistoric cave to civilization every 2 - 3 days.

AFAIK leaving your phone in automatic (if there's that mode available), won't drain the battery for use with an headset.
Let me try to explain this. To use a headset firat you have to pair both the phone and the HS. After doing that your phone get's to know it's passkey and everything it needs to work with.
When receiving a call, your phone just makes a confirmation of the presence of the HS. If it's there it'll connect to it, if not just answer it normally.
So in fact it's not "always on", it's "always on standby".

Is there an automatic setting for the p8? I used a bluetooth earpiece with automatic answer and voice dialing set on I watched the battery drain at an alarming rate. I wonder if it was the voice dialling that caused the drain as the fone was constantly searching for matches - any ideas or solutions please ?

I had to ditch my voice dialing & magic word because the phone would be constantly trying to match commands after being activated during normal conversation, even after several changes of the magic word.

@Orn8one
The P800 does have an automatic setting. Unfortunately you have to set it to ON to use the voice dialing through the head so the phone will will always maintain a connection to the headset. When set to automatic, the phone will only search for the headset when you receive or make a call

Thank you. @ Pachy I have also kept changing my magic word but every time I open my mouth I think the phone searches so I will have give it up too - unless @ jhermano. Do you mean you have to click the switch on the headset and then use voice dial? So the phone and hreadset are in a standby situation ? Ty to you both
