Ok, let's take an average 7 classes a day x 5 days a week -> 35 appointments a week to keep in a calendar. And every weekend you'd have to delete the previous week, and copy the schedule to next week, because if not - you will end up having 140 appointments a month. Why go through all that, when a simple app could take care of everything. I honestly can not understand why everyone is resisting this idea so much. This is not a "who is gonna come up with the most creative alternative quiz"

why not use the phones internal calender, which is synchronized to MS outlook. Outlook has reoccuring events, so it should be pretty easy to set up you schedule and then transfer it to the phone...

I agree with mau, this exactly what I do.
While syncing you can select how far to the past and how far to the future the events are synced. For example in my phone I carry with me only the events of the past month and 4 future months.
When you would use some java "thingie", the you'd have to enter information to the phone directly, using the phones keyboard. Inserting info to Outlook on a computer is much more comfortable.

It's amazing how all of you simply dismiss a perfectly reasonable idea. Diversity is a good thing. Surely beeing able to choose between using a calendar or a JAVA app is better then beeing forced to use calendar simply because it's your only option! Different options have their own pros and cons - that's whats good about having options - beeing able to choose the solution that suites you best.

..but that's really beside the point, since in this particular case there is no standart utility available that would perform well.

first, let me just say that no disrespect is intended. i apprieciate all of your posts, experience, and advice, but... i thought we were talking about
college. i guess it could be different in Sweden, but here nobody has 7 classes a day in college! for instance, when i was in college, i had two classes a day, four hours each, with an hour break in between, four days a week. so that right there is only eight schedules a week. and they're the same every week for the entire quarter (11 weeks).
if @dirre has 7 classes, which is more like highschool, but again, i don't know about Sweden, then they should only be like 45 minutes to an hour a piece and one right after the other; in which case, he shouldn't have to put all of them in his phone.

Thats a good suggestion.. im sure somone with java skills could make one no problem... and it would be a very small application.
In the mean time this might work... Make a copy of you schedule in paint or photoshop. Make it the full size screen and make it a gif, for less image loss. then have it as your screensaver... You will have ten seconds to look up your next class...
Im sure you could make it small enough... and it should be still readable..
The java solution of course is what we need... An Java developers in here?
