slightly off-topic, but does anyone know how i can convert videos on vhs tapes to digital format, prefereably divx? i've got a pretty comprehensive collection of most of the formula 1 races from 1986 to 1994 and would like to burn them onto cd's as i doubt vhs tapes will last forever.

Get a videcard with video-in port, or a TV-card with a video-in port. You will need a fast PC with a lot of hard disk space. You will need software that can record video to harddisk (usually follows with TV cards). Finally you will need an avi2divx converter.

Most of my records are in good condition and i'm using Technics cartridge heads with Stanton styli's on SoundLab decks,there is also a 7 band graphic EQ on the mixer.
Btw,have you got a direct link to this SoundForge please(hope it's free too)
Oh,there is a tape out on the mixer,this is used for recording to the tape deck at the mo

try this link the articles a bit old but the princples should still work.
@wrath interms of vinyl sounding better than cd it should but it allcomes down the recording at the begining if its badly recorded or badly mixed no format in the world will make it sound good
except mp3 which somehow manages to make everything sound average and over mixed

I think it depends on the styli you use for best quality,ie,stanton trackmaster probably would be one of the top choices,i'm using stanton 500

@slattery,thanks for the link mate
Well after reading the link that slattery posted i think i'm on the right track to forfilling my objective,what i did was i got the sound recorder to record a vinly clip but there is a 60 second record limit on it.
When i tried to play it in winamp,it played but then i got an error message followed by a send error report to microsoft.
When playing in win media player 9 it played ok with no error reports so i suppose its playing in the player i want because thats the player i use to copy with.I need to tweek the volume level a bit and i found that it was recording in stereo at 56 kbps,does that sound right to anyone?
So thanks again and any tips on recording longer than a minute on that sound recorder would be very helpful cus theres no option to make it longer(or i just cant find it).
Please keep the tips coming in cus i aint finished yet
