> GSM phone that works both in USA and India ?

Any T-Mobile phone should do the trick. Treo 650 would work perfectly for those who are concerned. But make sure the phone is unlocked before you reach India, otherwise it wouldn't work

Any phone that has the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz frequencies will work in India. I have a K700i and a K750i and I have service with Cingular. I am taking both these phones with me next month, one for me to use while I am there and the other for my bro in India.

Hi all:
I have T-Mobile Motorola Razor V3, I am planning to visit India next month. I have Air Tel sim with me, Can I use this sim in this Moto V3 with out making any changes? I had noticed that lot of guys mentioning brake the code or some thing. What is that? How can I do that? please help. I will really appreciate your help. I think Moto razor V3 is Tri band GSM.
Thanks in advance

An Indian friend visiting the US asked me to find her a GMS phone here to take back to India to use there with a locally bought sim card.
All the info I see tells me if I get a trimode or quadmode I should be fine. I'm looking at quadmode phones just to be sure its usable anywhere.
Two questions arise for me...
1) Just because it has a quadmode frequency capability, will an Indian provider not want to service certain model/makes of phone? It seems not all carriers in the US will service all quadphone models.
2) Instead of spending $100 in the US on a phone on ebay that "should" work in India, would she be better off with me giving her the $$$ to just buy a phone in India.
Thanks for any input....

You will need to unlock your phone. You can call t-mobile and usually they do it for you if you tell them that you are going to India (for good)

Does anyone have experience with Nokia 5300? If it works in India. Any advantage to having a quad band again triband. In countries like USA, India which have only specific frequencies? Thanks

Yes, nokia 5300 works here.
With a quad band you can go any corner of the world.
Though nokia 5300 is tri band you can still use it in india while roaming.
