You dont paint it chrome you have it electroplated, you will have to look for a company that does electroplating. I think it would look alright
Actually you can do both. Chrome painting is caled "vacuum metalized finish" and involves a vacuum chamber and polyurethane coatings but electroplating (chrome plating) gives a much better finished result. Either process will cost a lot of money though and in my opinion not worth it.

if you are planning to chrome it, there is actually no way you should consider it other than full on electroplating-- they first coat it in a conductive paint, then coat it, but if you tell them to mask bits off they will.... it works on plastics too... paint turns out crap + it oxidises if you touch it + it will react with any clear coats you try to put on over it... i have experience with this lol

Painting certainly doesn't turn out "crap" if you do it correctly but like I said, electroplating gives much better results. For example, all the chrome "effect" plastic parts on Hi-Fi's and the like are all vacuum chrome rather than electroplated. To electoplate your P800 plastic body would cost several hundred pounds. In a nutshell, it would be daft to do it unless you had some serious money to throw around. It would look the dogs bollocks though!

so... ummm do you have one of these vacuum chroming tools? if not how can one obtain one and how much will it cost? as compared to the traditional electroplating?
maybe an anodized finish by using metalcast paint would be kewl?

electroplating in australia is quite cheap. It should not cost anymore then $AUS20-$30. Someone said here it would cost about 200pounds! I know for about $AUS150 you can get your own little electroplating kits, you know do it yourself!
you got me thinking now!

Check out any website that does professional electroplating and you will never see it as cheap as $20!! If you do, steer well clear! They would be cowboys I reckon. The process is very long winded and time consuming and if perhaps you had 100 pieces to do you might get it down to $20 each but for 1 piece...not a chance.
As an example...I found it 400% cheaper to purchase a new replacement MGA bumper than to get the old one rechromed. The new one cost $129...that tells you how much electroplating costs when you are talking one unit rather than hundreds...nearly $500 for a small MGA bumper!! Gulp!

Whoa... hold on now... Chroming and Electroplating are two different processes. For one thing Chroming uses large baths where metal is dipped in a cromium acid bath and then current is passed through and the finish chemically bonds with the metal giving it that nice finish... This only works on Metal because of the heat involved.
If I am not mistaken...

@prodjsxb
You can also do plastic as malc said it just gets pre treated first

yes, you can electroplate plastic, but you cannot dip plastics parts in a piping hot bath of acid as used for metal chroming. Does that make sense? People always get those two mixed up. I have sent plenty of car parts to get chromed. But even the guys at that place told me that the plastic stuff has to be done in a different process (electrolysis) so it cant be included in the price as the metal parts I was getting chromed. They are close but no acid bath for plastics.
