metal casing on portible devices is a very bad idea, ive had 2 minidiscs and they have fallen apart because the metal does not bend like plastic. i would hate to see what a metal cased phone would be like! id give it 2 weeks

ok. tried out both phones today.
immediately i noticed that tha v600 moto felt and looked a lot better than the z600. the camera has a few issues on both but i have to admit the ui on the moto has been greatly improved. in fact i think its better than the z600 se.
having played with both for a few minutes i would have got the z600 if i had not heard the ringtones on the moto.
amazing. mp3 but loud and clear. definately beats the p800 speaker.
ive decided. moto it is.
and its free on t-mobile!
on o2 its the same price as the z600.
thanks for all your help and responses people.
ps- i dont know if it was just the resolution, but the moto had a better screen. this surprised me.

V600 is also a quad-band phone which means it will be more flexible in NA.

Yes. quad band is a great plus!

I am also very pleased to hear that Motorola has finally made a better ui then!

Guess that means they're back in the race then

The V600 has Video PLAYBACK only, it does NOT record video.

Quad-band is useful if you're in the U.S. but if you're only going to roam there then just about everywhere where there is 850, 1900 also exists so it's not going to make a big difference.

V600 has a higher resolution screen and in some markets may come with a new small Bluetooth headset attachment (only the BlueSpoon is smaller).

Right..... well for me as frequent traveller to the US (not always in the metropolitan areas) quadband makes all the difference in the world and this will only become better with time.

cheers
