Buhahahahaha!!! I'm fed up with exams, though... But the scholarship money could come in handy! Knew a guy who every year would register at the Technical University just for that... 701, maybe we should start a Romanian forum since there are... 4 or 5 of us? Ok - bit of confusion here I think!

First of all things get complicated because some networks like CDMA/TDMA actually describe the method of coding used on the network as well as the name of it. Things get confusing though because GSM for example, actually uses TDMA as the method of coding its signals (confused yet? )

1g is essentially analogue services (be they TACS/AMPS whatever).

2g is first generation digital (GSM/CDMA/D-AMPS etc.)

2.5g is the extension of the first generation digital services (GPRS etc.)

3g is the full next generation digital systems that allow much higher bandwidth data (UMTS aka WCDMA etc)

EDGE is kind of halfway between 2.5g and 3g as it is another extension of GSM but is into the realms of 3g in terms of bandwidth. I think they have decided that it qualifies as 3g pretty much now.

EDGE will be used as much as GPRS which is not much at all...for the masses i think!

I use gprs all the time for wap access, MMS & email connections.

So do the majority of others, without knowing it.
