Received the HBM-30 yesterday and have so far been unable to use it for mp3 playback. I did succeed in recording using the included wire but ofcourse that is analog and with it you don't get the IDtags, etc.

I have also tried using the 16mb memory stick which came with the P800 to store mp3's after reading in the review that you can't store mp3's on the included (white 64mb duo card) even though the manual suggests otherwise.

Further, I spoke to SE tech support a few minutes ago only to confirm that they do not have tech support for the product! The rep went on to say that it wasn't released in the US market; odd considering I purchased it on Friday from the SE US site which ofcourse uses the US$. To this it was suggested that the product could possibly have been released but not tech support was available.

The device itself is not upto the quality one would expect from SE. The buttons are a faux metal the memory card sticks out a little. The construction is good but it reminds me of the original iriver with it's low quality build... I don't mean to harp about this but I actually expected something better for $250.00

I still have been unable to transfer MP3's using the 16mb stick (not magicgate) and have tried both my pc and mac to transfer the files. Further, the files can be read on both machines from the memory stick but are not recognized by the HBM-30. Also tried numerous times with the 64mb stick but that ofcourse proved futile.

I would like to give this device a chance as it would prove useful when at the gym as phones are discouraged.

I would be happy to try any suggestions to make this work. Has anyone succeded?

I saw it at a shop here in Dubai yesterday. It's selling for $290

Is it true that it only works on built-in memory? That would suck. I still haven't studied it at all. I don't know why I don't find it as appealing now as it was when we first started hearing about it.

I don't know if this helps or not, but the SE website has a disclaimer about MP3 Encoding tucked away here:

http://www.sonyericsson.com/downloads/HBM30_Disclaimer_R1A_Multilingual.pdf

It seems you must encode the MP3s using a specific LAME.

I think I'll keep my iPod. Prefer 10GB instead of 64MB... And the iPod is cheaper!

I dragged files from iTunes to the memory stick in the correct directory (even tried others as well as reformatting the mem stick several times using the hmh-30) but it didn't work. The only files which appeared to show up as tracks were the ones I copied using the analog wire from my ipod which really is a throwback to the non-digital age..

I got my HBM-30 last thursday, copied my MP3 file to the MP3 directory, turned on the HBM-30 press and hold menu until the beeb tehn select MP3 rather than ARTAC playback, HBM-30 then reads the MP3 directory (which needs a small amount of space free in it) and away you go no problem at all.

Are you sure you selected it to read from the MP3 directory maybee the songs you recorded were recorded in a artac format instead and therefore a different directory.

Anyway, what a top bit of kit, the caller ID function is great the clarity is gfeat. I have just sold my P800 and got a t610 and this as it a much better comno ....

I know the p800 is a great phone but only if you use all the functionality, if you want contacts, calander, and MP3 go for the T610 and HBM-30 it is a real winner

Babar,

I too have a mac and PC and I finally got my HBM-30 to work. With my Mac using OS X 10.2.6, I found that the mac was sticking little "._DS Store" or something files all over the directory, and also a copy of MP3's - like if the song was called "song.mp3", it would stick in a "._song.mp3" file as well. If I put the card in an PC running XP, I just deleted all those "._xxxxx" files and the card would work.

Sooo, check your Duo in an XP machine and see if you can find those little files and chuck 'em. For my mac, I have to use Virtual PC to transfer files to the card!

Good luck

PS P800 users can't see call display apparently. Confirmed?
