> Can P900 Send and Receive FAX?
Bookmark topic
I doubt the P900 can use fax... the P800 can't... no matter what app you put in.
The modem in the P800 doesn't contain fax commands... maybe they had issues with the GPRS or something. I really don't know.
It would've been great though if it could send and receive faxes... then you could just sign right on the fax!

My understanding (from various threads over the last 9 months) is that the P800 does not have the fax part of the modem built in. I would assume the P900 is the same as otherwise SE would make a big thing of it.
The Nokia 9210 can send and receive faxes, and can print via IR to some printers (a very limited number I believe). Having had two communicators in the past I have to say that if you definitely need fax on the move then it's probably the best solution.
Orange's fax service is pretty good if you're on the move as you can get your faxes redirected to pretty much any fax machine in the world - when you receive a fax you get a text message. You then dial into your voicemail, enter the number where you want the fax redirected to and it'll be there in less than a minute. You cannot send faxes though.
I seriously doubt whether that Java fax program would work on the P800/P900 as it simply does not have the hardware to run it. (Although again this is all hearsay from previous threads on this forum.

no p900 cant - symbian os is capable of it but se have not included any fax application support even for third parties to develop this like has already been done on series 60 handsets.
May be SE can have this in a software update if lots of people request for this (unlikley i guess) but you dont know till you try!

The P800 can't send or receive faxes. There were some early threads about this when it first came out and people were writting to SE about this.
I'd be very disapointed of the P900 also doesn't have fax capability, seeing that it is a communication device and lesser phones have this function. Especially as the P900 is geared up towards the business end of the market, and faxes are still a business comunication medium. It would be a grave ommision in my mind and would mean that perhaps SE were not listening!!

I was looking into just this issue.
There is a nice fax application here:
www.bitween.com
for the symbian series 60 platform. They may develop this for the uiq (p800/900) platform, as they have other nice products I see (remote control app., among others).
But, maybe the Siemens SX1 will be my choice due to all of the currently existing software (consumers don't like to wait too long

)
Nice to see that quickoffice is out for the P800/900 too. (on
www.quickoffice.com).
Regards,
Gnuig.

Ok, Easy to explain. When you have an advanced carier like vodafone or KPN, B-tel, At&T or whatever you have the option to have a seperate dataline. This means that you will receive an extra telefone number which you can use as a second line on your phone. ASL. Like they have in the Nokia 9110I there also will come an application that will been kept active on you p800/p900 (symbian) and will switch on if you receive an data incomming line. This application will be horizontal and will receive this on a screen just plain and simple like the old fashion phones.
When you only have 1 line, the phone will become active and all other applications will be in sleep mode. The phone will receive it's fax and when done tada. you have a fax in RTF format.
why do I know this

, I'm working at and with several big companys who are designing this kind of software for this particulair phones (smart). Microsoft will release the same kind of product on his phone soon, the company who are designing and working on the app for symbian would love and like to be the first, and not microsoft... damn my english sux today :0 ... ok nevermind...
What I just want to say is, there will be an application released for the symbian phones, in particulair for the SE P900/800 and for the Sendo X.
Good news isn't it

@guardianangel
Surely the phone has to be fax capable for it to be able to send and receive faxes. This is an architure issue and nothing to do with just software. I have looked at the White Paper for the P900 and, unless I have missed it, it doesn't mention that the phone is fax capable.
So, unless I am very much mistaken, software alone is not going to enable the phone to be fax capable.

Now heres a simple solution, if you require a phone to be able to send and recieve faxes and the P900 cant, buy a phone that can.
