On a serious note I think that there is going to be an issue over size soon. Phones have definitely gotten smaller over the years as we all know, but with smartphones there is a problem. Using the current input/output methods the device has to be a reasonable size to allow one to write on the screen and to actually see things on the screen.
If we want devices any smaller then the manufacturers will have to think of new ways to input data and to display that data to the user.
About a year ago, I think, I saw a programme on one of the Discovery channels, which mentioned something about a Japanese firm trying to develop contact lenses that could display information to the user. The way it was set up meant that the user saw the data as if it were a few feet in front of them, or so the idea was, at any rate.
Has anyone heard anything else about this as I don't seem to be able to find any mention of it anywhere?

I wouldn't like that.. I like to admire my P800, admire the style and shape and everything
I wouldn't wanna admire the style and shape of a contact lense

@scotsboyuk, Yes i have seen a japanese product, its a pair of glass's that have a battery & give the wearer the impression the screen is about a foot infront of them, but you can also look below them to see where your walking, all these gadgets rely on a piece of hardware.
the roll out cloth screen in my above post was NOT a joke, scientists are working on a cloth, woven from strands of electronic light emitting material, its as flexible as denim jeans you can either wear a garment made from it or have a screen that unrolls from the side of a "pen" type mobile, four little stays hold it stretched out tight & it is about 150mm square screen size.
The scientists are also looking at how moths & butterflies have amazing multicoloured flexible wings, it is done by the tiny frequency or spacing of the ribs in the wings, they show a different colour depending on the spacing ........which would be electronically adjusted in a manmade version.

Anyone saw the Andromeda? They use (hard) plastic for input/output (not the monitors, the 'papers' they look at when reading stats) I think it would be nice if we could have something like that (same screen size as the p800 but as thin as plastic, although no more camera unless you want it to be a bit thicker =)
On a side note, the technology for using plastic as a screen is available but not yet feasible for mass prod'n (= and I doubt if it could serve as a touch screen at the same time at our current state of technology.

@teg, even the P900 is WAY bigger than it needs to be, a large proportion of the thickness is the battery, the phone uses a li polymer battery which are famous for being able to be moulded into various shapes,so the "casing" around the screen could be the battery, saving around a third of the thickness.
This would mean a new baattery would be a new case, not a big problem now days as batteries dont tend to wear out like they used to.

Hmm wouldn't it heat a little, might get too hot to handle. Oh come on people that is a good pun!
The technology exists to make some very exotic sounding devices, but it all comes down to money. If money were no object then there are some seriously cools things that could be crammed into a very small space indeed.
Control of the device could be through thought (yes it does exist, sensors measure electronic impulses in the brain and convert those into instructions for the device).
If you really wanted to you could fit the power of a desktop pc into something the size of a watch.

I want a P1000 that can flush the toilet with the push of a button, I want it to be able to walk my dog and cook me dinner and help me take over the world:D.
OK OK....I'll be a little more realistic....I'm not asking for too much Sony Ericsson!!! LETS SEE SUPPORT FOR MEMORY GREATER THAN 128MB! Is this too much to ask? Maybe a different OS(palm or microsoft based) would be nice too for flexibility
