EWWW!!! Don't buy any phone from Greenhills... that's about as good as picking up a phone from the garbage can!

@jplacson

hehehe, I see you're really opposed to buying in greenhills. But come on give them a chance, they're just looking for a "bargain". Not everyone can afford to buy from Semicon and the other authorized dealers.

Haven't seen one in greenhills when I went there last weekend.

I'm one of the new members in Esato who is still trying to decide whether to get a P800 or P900.

Based from my canvassing, the P800 costs 35K in Semicon. I asked if the price may go down once the P900 is released. They said that it probably won't. It was, of course, an expected answer to get me to buy it right away. They don't have an estimated price for the P900 just yet though.

I was in Greenhills last week scouring for the cheapest P800 and, by a longshot, hoping that some stray P900 units may be available. Anyway, the cheapest P800 there costs around 29,800. Without warranty, of course. I asked around for an estimated price of the P900 and they said that it might fall between 35K to 38K. At least they were honest when i asked the possibility of the P800's price going down after the introduction of the P900. They said that it will be a definite possibility. They are expecting a barrage of P800 trade-ins for the P900 thus possibly lowering its price in the market.

Now here's my question to you guys. Do you think i should buy the P800 or the P900? I definitely will be deciding on this after the release of the P900 so i can take advantage of the possible price drop of the P800, if ever i choose to buy it.

Secondly, is it worth to shell out 3K to 4K more for any of these phones for a 1 year warranty? Some think it may be too much for a phone that we may eventually get tired of or go obsolete in less than a year. Some, on the other hand, think that a warranty is very much needed for a high-end and expensive phone such as the P800 or the P900.

Thanks in advance for your illuminating replies!

Cyclops... you're better off getting a 2nd hand P800 with warranty... there are a lot of us (me included) who are selling their P800s and are still under Semicon warranty for less than Greenhills prices.

Greenhills phones are usually the chinese version, and unless you use the chinese menu, the chinese phones suck when you use the English menu... too many glitches. Plus you don't get warranty... if ever, you get in-store warranty which usually sucks (you can get a replacement when they get their next shipment which is usually in 4 months..if your phone is defective)

I'm selling my P800 for P28K with a Billionton Bluetooth USB plug... some other people are selling their Globe-locked units for P22K...

All of these still have valid warranties... and are much better deals than a brand new unit from Greenhills.

Now, whether to get the P900 or not... that's up to your budget... estimated price is about P45K... but I'm betting on P42K.

The main feature differences are the screen and video recording (although this is just software and Camcoder actually does this already and it's MMS ready - 10 sec, no sound) so brand new... you'll be paying about P8~9K more for the screen upgrade. (I don't count the MS Duo since both the 16MB and 32MB are pretty lame)

I'd get the P900 if I were you and your budget allowed... if not... getting a 2nd hand WARRANTIED P800 is your best bet... you have so many of us to choose from... combined, P800 sellers have more stock than Semicon!!!

The P800 is a great phone and the P900 sort of perfected it.

Getting a P900 pros:
1) Newest product, more standard features and bug fixes.
2) More resale value.

Cons:
1) Expensive!

Getting a P800 pros:
1) A P800 with 3rd party apps can match the P900's standard capabilities.
2) Saving money in the process.

Cons:
1) No resale value... since it's second hand.
2) some essentail? features are lacking (t9, video recording)... depending on your needs.

If your getting a P800 I suggest you by from the Esato members selling their phones. They sell them at a cheaper price than in greenhills, still under warranty, and loaded with 3rd party apps. (That's a good deal).

jomni... P900 has a higher resale value? how can you re-sell something that's not even out yet?? of course it will have higher value since it's a new model.

and yes, I'm very opposed to gray-market phones... for good reason... I wouldn't mind so much if, say, Greenhills sold the P900 for P20K... while Semicon sells it for P45K... but if Greenhills sells it at P38K..or even worse P50K (if they manage to get it ahead) ... I don't want future buyers to get suckered into defective/prototype/chinese units.

The Chinese versions of phones are fine... IF... you use the Chinese menu... or send & receive Chinese SMS frequently... but if you don't, using the English menu usually brings out a lot of glitches... Phil can't upgrade the unit, even if you paid... simply because we are not authorized to sell Chinese enabled units.

I want to warn future buyers of the dangers of buying from non-authorized dealers... these guys offer in-store warranty...which means, if the unit they sell you is defective, you can only get a new unit from them... when their new stock arrives... which is usually in 4-6 months... they will NOT give you a refund.

Some of you may argue that Semicon doesn't offer much more ... BUT... if push comes to shove... you CAN sue Semicon... they are a very visible corporation and are easily tracked... Greenhills stores on the otherhand... well... I doubt they're even registered.

Like I said... if Greenhills shops offered phones at HALF the price of Semicon.. then by all means.. hell, even I'd buy from them... but at a few thousand less?!?!? For a P45K phone??? The risk isn't worth it. And Semicon has a 7-day instant replacement... (and I think refund as well) if the unit is defective.

I'm not a dealer of Semicon (although I think I should apply as one) ... and I have had my share of crappy service...specially from the MegaMall idiots... but so far, nothing too bad. Their service is getting better...and at least they get new models pretty much on time.

when the P800 came out in other countries December 2002, it cost 45-50k (converted to PhP). but when it was put out here, it came out PhP38,500.

..and days before it was put out in Semicon, it was rumored to cost 42-45k, but it didnt.

dont lose hope on the price...
