I was under the impression that the Sony Erricsson 'merger' was more a case Sony taking over Ericsson to get a better hold on the mobile market.
Sony phones were full of gadgets but not the most reliable of handsets.
Ericsson had the best reliabilty with very limited handsets.

I had also heard word that Sony were to soon continue as Sony alone, using the SE reputation as a base but keeping it Sony.

Even this early in dev, it will be known whether it will be Touch Screen PDA, ClamShell etc.
It was this sort of 'info' i was wondering about.

and i still stand by my questions

Anyway, I hadn't heard about them just using Sony and quite frankly I don't think they will. People know SE now and respect it. Changing the name would just cost them money and involve another brand change.
As for what the next smartphone will be like I don't think there is much point in speculating. I presume that SE people do read these threads so most likely (if they have sense) they will be taking our suggestions on board for what we would like to see in the next SE smartphone.
One point that I will touch upon is your question about what the design will be like. I would imagine that SE will stick with the basic PXOO design. SE have other phones that fill other design criteria, the PXOO series will no doubt remain the same (probably getting smaller though).

I have an ideia about a feature that would make P(something) lights year ahead of all other smartphones. An infrared keyboard. Imagine standing your P*** agains something, vertically, and it would "draw" a virtual keyboard on the surface in front of it. How long do you think it takes to develop a new prototipe (actually it is normally several so that you can decide a new model), debug it, start a production, and comertialise it?????

i can see it now people saying i aint getting the p900 the newer version will be out in 6 - 9 months then when that one comes out the same people will say nah i will wait for the next model which is out in 6 - 9 months.

moral of the story stop being a coward buy the damn phone if you can afford it!
