I'm also about to buy a new laptop as my current Vaio is now 2 years old, although I have upgraded it to 1gb ram and 80gb HDD. As this was my 4th vaio in a row I am of course looking at another vaio, probably the S2VP which does come with a 2ghz centrino compared to my current vaio which has a 2ghz P4M.

the research I have done suggest that for the same value ghz the centrino is more powerful than the P4M and so backs up your comments Krubach.

regarding the high use of HDD or DVD/CD, well it would be the same whether you bought centrino or P4M so that doesn't really come into the equation

my current vaio gets around 3 hours out of the battery but the new one quotes around 5 hours so clearly the centrino is ahead there although I only use the laptop on battery once in a while its still nice to know I can get that much more from it.

personally I haven't done so much research between the two but everything I have read as a casual reader of pc mags etc does suggest that centrino is that way to go now, and that will be my choice.

I have never considered anything but Intel for my own, my family or any company PC's I have been involved with.

I trust Intel 100% although there have been a couple of issues in the past such as the very insignificant maths problem on the original pentium and the PSN (processor serial number) scare

Sorry maybe my profile is not very accurate.
I'm Portuguese and living in Portugal, so...

So, it's a no go for the nearest magazine shop.

No need to do that mate!
Just post a rough comparison from Centrino 1.6 and P4M 3.2 or any other processors near these clock rates.

Thanks batesie.
