Gelfen, as far as i remember, they are an old thing that operator's were going to use or used to use for service updates, news and information etc. I seen to remember reading this in my manual for my siemens s8. Probably not used any more or never used. Thats my guess :-) This message was posted from a T68i

It consumes more battery. thats what i observed. so in same city, i found it useless. but is useful while roaming. i generally keep it off. This message was posted from a T68i

Could you imagine what it would say in the uk, if it told you what street you were on. It would say something like 02-uk your phone is about to be nicked This message was posted from a T300

It used to be useful in the uk. In the early days calls to the area you were in were cheaper if you were on a local call saver. This let you know if the number you were dialing was gonna be a cheap call or not. This message was posted from a T610

I whish more providers used it for convenient stuff like in Budapest, Hungary it tells you the name of the current underground (metro) stop you are on. Pretty convenient for tourists. I'm sure there are plenty of other places where it could be used for like that...

Here in Bucharest there r so many blocks and tall buildings that they have to put an antena on almost evrery corner ,so it usually tell u the street u r on, or the general area...50m or so.
It's convenient but it's also useless.Gets me on my nerves
And the guy that said that it consumes more battery, u, boy, should read about mobile phones some more..u have some "holes" in the "gsm-knowledge"
