Mine works fine with flip closed but if you lock the screen with flip open/removed then it can't be done. I guess this is what he means.

No, SE didn't break the intl law on my phone! I just have been trying to do it. Everything is ok.

I think MikLsp is right there in the flip off mode or with virtual flip you need to unlock first before you are able to dial emergency numbers. And now I can see his Avatar is a flip open p900 so Grex mght be using the phone flip removed and hence this thread

I always thought that one of the main functions of a keylock is to stop you accidentally calling numbers, especially emergency ones! It kind of defeats the object of a keylock if you can dial the emergency number with the keys locked. I've pulled my phone out my pocket before with a couple of 9s on it nearly calling 999!
though I can understand the logic of it if you're caught up in a situation where time is pressing and fiddling about unlocking your keypad could waste precious seconds though!

sorry guys, I meant to be more specific. I have a p900, yes, and with flip on, AND keys locked, i cannot dial emergency numbers. Every other phone lets you do this, so I presumed, (somewhat mistakenly it appears) that this function must be in some sort of law....

Definitely with flip ON and keylock ON u should still be able to dial 999 (in the UK....I've tried 911 with no success

) and 112
