Technical merits aside, CCD in most cameras (and cameraphones) offer better picture quality although CMOS is supposed to be able to capture pictures faster. Again, this depends on the rest of the technology used in the whole camera.
VGA is just the size of the CCD/CMOS sensor (that captures the picture). Higher (mega) pixels produce higher resolution, see Sharp
GX-30 as the current high-end GSM cameraphone. A proper optical zoom would be good as digital zoom sacrifices resolution and clarity, Sony may help if they introduce the sideways mounted zoom lens technology from their DSC-T1 digital cameras.
What you really need for good picture quality now is (auto) focusing as well as the mega-pixels. That will probably appear in a year's time for GSM along with 2 mega-pixel plus cameraphones.

The devil is also in the optics. The higher resolution may not provide better quality with the same blurry lens with no autofocus

thnks, now it mkes snse. i thoght a ccd was a mesur like megapxl. lol, when discusin dis, i thnk "shutter" speed is a factor. :)
