The concept was developed at the new Sony-Ericsson Design Center as part of my graduationproject. The goal was to create a synergy between humans and communicationtechnology by designing a more natural product. The most obvious difference with current mobile phones is the large touchscreen instead of a traditional keypad. Text and numbers are drawed with your thumb on a nine-dot matrix: it resembles childrens’ fingerpainting. The idea is easy because it is visual and resembles natural writing. Drawing a character is faster and more natural than searching for the letter on small keys. This visual writing principle can also be applied to non-Western alphabets, which is a mayor benefit for Asian people.
In terms of style, the design breaks with the rectangular boxes of current mobile phones. The concept was published in T3 magazine (March 2002) and FORM (June 2002).

just searched T3: that isue isnt on web:

http://www.t3.co.uk/magazine/[....]tionid=769&pagetypeid=1&page=2

had more luck with form, however, here are no pix, just the content:

http://www.form.de/w3.rDefault.php?objId=953

so, if we could get these 2 magazines, we ll have an answer. But as mentioned above in the article, it has been designed in the se design center.

Interesting to see where concepts can develope to. That with the earphones could be the future. We ll manage everything by voice controll and watch the latest movies on a kind of visor pads. But how should we call them? They arent fones anymore. This message was posted from a R520

Could be. Do wish se would create fones with metal or aluminium housing ( like t610 ) instead of plastic. Do know its for reduce the costs, but even. It would be great to release emil, quartz and some other protos, think the time has come for those design and features. This message was posted from a R520

I think I've seen the 2nd one since the P800 days...

By the way, the first one (Green in colour) is very good looking... Wonder whether it'll eventually be in production or not...
