@Shinyspoon

I was at the Akihabara today and I saw 128mb DUO stick for as cheap as 6,800 Yen. The nice thing about that shopping area is that you can bargain down to a reasonable price. I picked up a 1G 'SD' stick for $120 cheaper then I would in the States. Anywho, there weren't that many SE phones at all with the expection of the latest SO505iS at several doComo shops. . There were some shops that carried imported mobiles at a very low cost. It was nice that I was able to bargain some goods at no tax as well.. The Vodophone models are popular. I did confirm that the dual GSM/WCDMA technology was in place. It's just a matter of swapping out the sim cards.

Will the WCDMA phones work with 3 in the UK? I know that UK WCDMA phones work in Japan.

I was told the standard 3G WCDMA Japanese phones are compatible in the UK only if the phone details are tied to a Japanese resident/#. However, one couldn't simply just activate the mobile out West. With that said, I believe there is a way around it by rigging the phone to do so. Some plp have gotten Japanese phones to work elsewhere around the Asia Pacific area. Of course, these are things the retailers will not admit to. But to use the almost common features like two-way Videophone conferencing, built-in GPS navigation, and streaming TV services you'd certainly have to be in the Japanese market. But I think getting a phone simply for its zoom capable 2-4 megapixel cameras w/ movie recorder is well worth it. I have a 2 megapixel camera on my pre-paid phone which was ridiculously cheap.
