but where does it say 3mp? that seems just a little too much, 2mp yes but it's a huge jump from 1mp to 3mp.... possible yes but i don't think so....
and about optical zoom

i mean if you have optical than this is not a phone anymore, it's a camera with a phone.... christ i know we have seen a lot of cameras that have ultra small lenses but really it's quite expensive to manafacture them plus the still take a lot of space...
maybe he was talking only about macro and normal viewfinder without any zoom, if you only have macro you don't need to integrate zoom lenses, take a look at a5404 to see what i'm talking about...
well if this is true than this is excellent news!
but i have to say i was never really thrilled by the idea of having a cam in your phone, i never take any pics with it and so i'm not very excited when i hear info like this, if you ask me they should work on batteries , wlan and rf (

It was an article in the PRINTED newspaper. If you tell me how to link to the printed media, I will do it...

Here is the essential part of the article. (I took the pic with my digital camera.)
It is in Finnish but I hope that some else (than me) has time to translate it.

It does indeed say 3MP, it even describes it as "meaning, three times more pixels than in the current flagship".

full translation
Development is fast
Although the currently newest Nokia doesn't reach the quality of low-end digital cameras, the situation may change in the second half of the year.
That is when Nokia's first 3 mega pixel camera phone will hit the stores. Meaning, it will have 3 times as many pixels as the current model.
-The new model will have a larger lense. The current model's biggest problem is just that, the accuracy of the lense, says Putkiranta.
The phone will also have optical zoom and support for an add-on flash.

They should improve a quality, not number of pixels...
Look at this pic taken with 6630 ( I know... prototype, but it look like interpolated from CIF

)
Btw. I dont think it is true, there will be NO 3mp nokia in this year, even in 2005

That's a night mode shot, taken in very dark light.
