hang on a sec. bit drastic to go reinstalling windows or formatting etc.

windows xp comes with system restore. simply use system restore to go back to the date when you know it last worked.

This has fixed every problem I have ever had on windows xp

to use system restore, click on start and then "help and Support". On the page that is displayed you will see "Pick a task" and one of those is "System Restore". if its not there then just type system restore into the search box at the top and it will find it for you. there is a way to run it from control panel but I can't remember right now

How many harddisks do you have? Do you use partitions? Itīs for a long talk... but if you do it right everything, all your files will remain unharmed...

Firstly there is no need to re-format your system..!
This is minor issue the way to deal with this is that first you remove the USB-Ir Da along with the cable..Then download the latest driver but its best to let windows XP choose its own driver...
Then re-connect the cable into any other USB port and Bingo It will work...Please also do write what XP are you using,,,Professional or Home..Home is the faulty one...

regards,
