Almost all mobiles have mono sound through speaker, since they have only one speaker. You can't do stereo sound through one speaker, you'll need two speakers for that.

If you think about it in a worldwide perspective though, they are later than SE and the others. Other phone manufacturers have had 1mp cameras in their phones for a while now in Japan, Nokia have only just released theirs.
SE are ahead, the SOS05is has been out a while now over there. The S700 is just taking longer because its newer than the other 1mp phones, and is probably being held back by SE to allow phones like the T610 and K700 to shift enough units before they bring another phone onto the market.
