I still have prolems seeing images (eg. T68logos on this site) via Orange wap...it seems that their wap gateway's not equipped to show images that are more than 1.5k...

I have downloaded some of my orange e-mails to my T68 but sometimes, when I clicked on the e-mail to read it, instead of seeing the mail, the T68 begins to dial again!
I am using the names of the servers for mail instead of the dns.
Does anyone think that using the dns will cure this?
I can, using wap, see my orange e-mail.

I got my T68 to pick up my Orange email over GSM, however I use Orange as my ISP so I'm using their dial-up number to access their pop & smtp servers.
The settings I use are as follows:
POP3 Server: pop.orange.net
POP3 Port: 110
Mailbox:
Password:
SMTP Server: smtp.orange.net
SMTP Port: 25
I connect via the following number +448450795001 using the same username & password as my PC. I think that you will have problems unless you use the Orange Internet dial-up number. You can register for this via the Orange UK website.
I have been trying to get my phone to pick-up mail from my Genie account without success. Do any of you guys know the settings?

I use those settings and the access number just as you wrote but still get some e-mails, that when I click to open, will cause the T68 to connect to Orange again!

Here's my input into the whole Orange/email thing:
Basically I have it working. Kind of. I still get quite a few connection problems (server not found, etc...) but these can only be one of two things:
- crappy orange mail servers (when I spoke to a lady on 156 she did mention they'd be having "problems" recently).
- poor signal
I'm using GSM to get my e-mail (GPRS at £4 a month for HALF-a-meg? are you kidding?) and it seems that signal or interferance may play a big part. It seems my phone connects better on certain part of my desk than others?
This is the problem with GSM of course - it can't recover from interuptions which GPRS can.
A quick note about something I saw someone mention... when you have managed to get e-mail down and try and read it only to discover it's trying to connect again - let it do so! When it sees an e-mail is over a certain size (not sure what this is) it only downloads the header. When you try and read it, it will connect and force the download. It then grabs as much of it can. Some e-mails will be over a page and you may see (o) More at the end. Clicking this will go and fetch the rest of the mail.
As someone else mentioned - this email facility has really been geared up for the always-on GPRS service.
For those still facing problems getting e-mail, heres what I did to get to my orange.net email (the only account I can seem to connect to!)
- Create an Orange ISP dial-up account. Chances are you already have one of these. You can check your username and password on the Orange.net site (not they are not the same as your orange.net login info). Orange ISP usernames and passwords are usually random letters/numbers.
If you're scratching your head at this stage, call 156 - they should guide you throug the whole thing.
- Call 156 (if you haven't already done so) and get them to enable HSCSD (high speed GSM) on your account. You'll be able to connect at 14.4k/s while using your free minutes. Higher speeds are available (up to 25.5k/s but you pay 25p per minute for this!)
- Make a note of the ISP details from the orange.net site, and on your T68 go to CONNECT menu. Select DATA COMM, then DATA ACCOUNTS and finally ADD ACCOUNT? Enter all the Orange ISP details you got from the Orange.net site. Enable a connection speed of 14.4k/s.
- Next you need to set up an e-mail account. Go to the MESSAGES menu, OPTIONS, E-MAIL, EDIT ACCOUNT and then ADD NEW? Use the settings as follows:
Connect using:
POP3 Server: pop.orange.net
POP3 port: 110
Mailbox:
Password:
SMTP server: smtp.orange.net
SMTP port: 25
Email address:
You can leave the rest of the settings on default.
A few points to note to dispell rumours I've seen about: Yes, using DNS names in place of IP addresses DOES work, and NO using business cards as your signature will not prevent you connecting to the server.
