smart movie has got all that extra crap on the screen, and you have to mess about with codecs and different formats.
@Skrue - it is the trailer pictured, although i do have the whole movie, but it is quite large.
I use a normal mpeg or avi, and put it in virtual dub (1.5.1 or higher)
http://prdownloads.sourceforg[....]VirtualDub-1.5.10.zip?download
open your video, go to video - filters - add -resize.
change the width to 280 &
change the height to 160,
select bicubic filter mode.
Then click on expand frame and letterbox image
and change to 296 x 188.
This will give a small box around the video, allowing it to run smoothly on the p900.
Save the file as an avi when you have selected the part of the video you want by using - Edit, select start/end.
Now open mpegable x4 - new or old version.
Select the file created in virtual dub, and select the output file.
Change the Total Bitrate (old version) /Video Bitrate (new version)
to 400 kbs
Change the audio bitrate to 128 kbs (lower if you want to reduce size a bit)
In advanced - change the target frame rate to 10
audio channels to mono, and sample rate to 22050 hz
set the constant bitrate to - Constant bitrate mode
and set the profile to - Simple Profile.
Messing about with the bitrate and framerate can give slightly better quality, but is a larger size.
The size is quite large, 5mb for 2 mins, but this can be kept down if you sacrifice a bit of quality.
The only ares where you get a "blocky" picture are with blacks.

The way I do it in VD is to use DivX at 250k.
That way I can have FULL SCREEN 320x208 movies that play smoothly at 10fps.
I can get an episode of family guy into about 40Mb which works out at 1.6MB per minute.
Obviously this could be lowered 175k and 200k are still watchable.
Seriously dude, I have tried and tried but the built in player just isnt that great.

Is it just me or does anyone else think .avi files 'scale up' better than mp4 when playing on a PC? ie stretch the window so it's not as if you're looking though a letter box to watch a movie.

I dont see why the guy doesnt like smartmovie, he says he doesnt like all the extra stuff on the screen (that you can turn off completely) and you dont have to mess about with any codecs... you just install the ONE xvid codec to your p900 and you can encode in divx (which everyone *should* have)
EDIT - I should note If anyone wants the settings I use in virtual dub to try themselves then PM me and I can send you the config file to load into your copy of virtual dub.
(Dont use the smartmovie converter at all)

The only thing that bugs me is you have to pay for Smartmovie (I know I'd stumped up £100's for a P900 but it's tangible ie hardware) no other OS (I know of) do you have to pay for software to play audio video interleaved files.

You can get rid of the seek bar in s/m in options. Wheres the messing with codec install once your away quality is miles better than what can be achived in PV player also camcoder app plays full screen with much better quality it can play small clips full screen with little loss of quality i could get 3 minutes in a megabyte and it looked much better than your results and the video was full screen not boxed the awfull PV player can muster nothing worth while its a waste of time i couldn never watch anything in that small screen to small and jerky i feel sorry for big feat..
edit: 2.5mb per minute in mp4 format is just plain wrong and silly on a p900!
