> Is SE ignoring the lower segment?

Yeah the T610 and the T630 may be cheap in western countries, but those same prices are unaffordable here. I live in india, where still the majority of phones sold are the monochrome models like the 2100 and the T100 etc. India and china are two markets which have an immense growth potential and i think SE should cater to the needs of those people too who need just a mobile phone. No frills attached. It would also help SE garner a sizeable chunk in the market share.

frankly Z 200 sucks..U r better of with a T-230..Ok now the mono chrome info..India has always been price sensitive country..I guess for Rs. 5000 MRP..T-230 is not a expensive investement..But come to comparision for the same price level with Nokia the only advantage Nokia users have is 2 Yr warranty and I yr Insurance..Otherwise nokia offers Colour LCD phones only at tag models of Rs.6000 and above..!
Boba..T68 is practically available second hand only..You don't get new Stock for a phone that old here..T68i din't sell much SE had a bad name with the T-100 so people stayed away from T68i..But the T-310/P 800 began it all here and SE became a successful venture..!
Milmano..Well phone's in India are not at all expensive..only high end phones are , they too drop within a time period of a month or two..!

actually, what se plan to do is to put more effort in making high end phones, so that the middle end phones reduce in value (price). (hope that makes sense to you.
too bad the prices there in india are still high and unfortunately, same thing is going on here in africa.

Personally i am not too fond of the t230. I think it is a bad copy of the t310 ( and its slightly better so i hate it even more
) As for the z200 it lacks mms (Dont know why sony ericsson did not include this)
But t310 are cheap now. I guess u Sony ericsson wouldnt bother to update the phone now seeing as the t610 is much better. Aw well its still a great phone...

Indeed, the t230 isnt the most beauty fone, same at the t3xx series. Personally the design shocked me at t3. Didnt know, that z2 hasnt got mms, its weird of se to forget standard features like that or just like the calendar in t230.

I'd like to add something to this discussion...
Low End phones serves more purpouses than just being the cheap phone everyone can afford to buy. Relying on "old" High End phones being downgraded to Low End as time goes and they turn cheap is not the right way to go in my oppinion. That would mean that Low End is aquivilant to Outdated in the end.
Low Ends ought to be easy to use and only have the most important features for a mobile phone but with the lates tecnology in screens and design. Compare them with the phones we had five years back; You could make calls, send SMS and that was basicallt it.
It is a problem for a lot of people to have the top of the range with camera, GPRS, sync option and all the advance features. Several issues and circumstances lifts up the Low End phones as the only option:
1. Older people are doing their entry in the mobile market. They do not want a phone with features other than to make a call.
2. People in working enviorements where cameras are banned. They have to leave their mobiles at home or have a Low End as a second phone for work.
3. Heavy duty workers. People working in inviorements where the risk of having an accident with your phone is more likely to happen that in an office area.
4. The younger generation. We see that the average age of kids getting their first mobile is getting lower for each year. The Low Ends is a good and safe way of introdusing them to the world of mobile telephony.
Each of these categories will off course have people with individual demands but the majority of the people in these categories would embrase a phone that covered only the basic necesseties.
The T230 has too poor a screen.
The Z200 has too poor a battery.
The old High End phones are too advanced to fall in to the Low End Category unforunaltly.
No, we need a phone that is cheap to buy, easy to use, only have the most important features, have a clear screen and a fair stand by time.
If people want more features than that they'd have to expect to pay for those features.
