you can turn of the lights by keypad locking your phone that way the lights will go off.

My K700i battery only lasts 1 day too. Its a good phone but this really lets it down.
I have turned off animated backgrounds and this seems to prolong the battery life a little longer...

@baste07 - If you're asking me . . . I still got the 'stock' one - R2A . . . I guess
I rarely use all the fone's features, most of only which are calls and sms, an average of 5 mins./calls/day and about 15 SMS sent/day . . . camera, about 3 shots/day - MMS sent applies to email as well
