Wow I had no idea that in other countries you had to pay for television. Here in the states you just plug the tv or radio in, raise the antennae and off you go in to mind numbing entertainment. you really are getting a raw deal.

NO far from it friscosjoke, I personally think we get a very good deal. Like you say your self 'mind numbing entertainment’ for free in the US as opposed to high quality TV, Radio, Internet & other public services from the BBC. I can understand some people’s frustration like titus & kinda admire their attitude. However I really can’t believe that no one in the UK has ever used the BBC (i.e. BBC education service) at least once in their lives, come on!!

Even if people in Europe & elsewhere don’t directly use their Publicly funded Broadcasters, organisation like BBC, SVT,SR, NRK, RAI etc etc are hugely important to the cultural fabric of their nations (& beyond) as a whole.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

Did you see what was on the BBC1 this morning ?

Constant repeats of DIY programs, or how to sell your house. I can remember sitting through some of those programs twice already when ive just got out of bed and cannot be bothered to walk over to pick up the remote.

I wouldnt say the BBC generates higher quality programmes than other channels such as ITV. In fact, i find myself watching less and less BBC channels each year. Im not a big telly addict, but i often find watching channels like ITV, Ch4 and crap like Bid-up.tv far more interesting than what the BBC has to offer.

The BBC should scrap the licence and start funding through commercial breaks.

commercial breaks are a serious pain in the a** as well though, expecially when you're watching a movie and it's at the height of suspense, you have the sound on bit louder and you're all into ity.... and then...... BANG there's the commercial break. For some reason the volume of the commercials is much louder than that of the movie, giving you a scare and deafness all at the same time.

Not to mention to complete moronic level of most commercials and the fact that they take 15 mins at a time and start about 5 mins after your show/movie has started.

I'd gladly trade them in altogether

@MTNT68I: I think you still have to pay, as it's just the tuner card being like the aerial to a tv (your monitor), i'm not sure though.

Here in Denmark, we also have to pay licence , they even investigate people who dont pay,, to see if they are cheating ! And its a raw 240 £ a year if you own a color tv !!! This message was posted from a P900

They also check up on people who don't pay here but it’s questionable how effective their techniques are. We’re all meant to be really scared if we see a grey TV van with a spinning aerial on top.

& you have to pay the same rate for a PC TV card here as it lets you watch colour pics.

How do they make you say for a radio/tv license? Are you automatically registered when you buy the telly ? Suppose you have only cable , are you supposed to pay then too ? This message was posted from a T610
