Dear Wazuki, patience is a virtue.
If you are going to Japan you have several choices about price. I also go to Japan faily regularly, and you can get the phones on contract or PAYG. If you are intending to stay for long periods then take a contract the phones are generally free, or you can take the phone on prepaid your phone will then cost anything from 20,000 - 40,000 yen (about £100-£200) depending on what phone you get. Be careful though some phones only have Japanese only menus, but thankfully most if not all SE phones have English menus. My phone is quite old more than a year I paid 20.000 yen on prepaid with au and the phone is a SE A1101S. Also if you are on prepaid you can only really make and recieve phone calls but with a contract you have access to all features on the web including your own email address,(there is no such thing as SMS in Japan) Be warned that your phone will only work in Japan because they use a completely different frequency out there I think 800 Mhz.

New and existing contract prices. You can use a translation website to check. It lists the lowest prices in Japan.
http://www.yamaguchi.net/archives/000188.html lists different prices for contracts. But the short term FOMA (1-10 months) is 62,800 , (10 months+) 37,800. So not sure what these ones are about but they usually have numerous different plans with different discounts. There is one Docomo shop that caters to English speakers in Tokyo.
