GuyB, well, since the fragmentation happens in process of saving and deleting files, and sms'es and mms'er are files, this is bound to happen with all symbian phones until defragmentation software comes along. But, ofcourse, it will take a long, long time with only mms'es and sms'es creating the traffic.

I use to delete all files in C\System\Mail folder. Then use Autoconfiguration to get settings back. Some settings can be saved if you check through all the folders but there is lot of sms and emails which was deleted by myself before but still I could open them there?? Im sending lot of mms and they are taking lot of space for sure, so just save the files to D and delete them when necessary to free up space.

Many maybe has lot of themes which taking lot of space, better to keep mostly of them at D and copy back when wanna use some. I found installation file of Legacy in C\System\Temp, it was 850 kb which I moved to D. Totally freed up from 2.2 to 5.0 MB just to clean up a "little"!

What I meant with selective restore is just manually copying only those files that you need from the backup. Of course this means you have to actually know what is stored where in symbian but there are guides, search the my-symbian forum.

The actual backup files can be found in ?:\Documents and Settings\Your User\Application Data\Sony Ericsson\backups\ on the pc suite pc.

They're named *.ecs but they are just zip files, rename to .zip and check out the filestore.dat text file inside, it holds the real original names and paths for all the files in the backup. There are tools that will do this for you, also on my-symbian, but if you only need a couple of files manually copying and renaming works fine.

Well, i found that the main problem were the sms messages. I've deleted (or actually, just moved them to the S&W SMS manager database, also on my C:\ drive) about 300 out of 1000, and gained 2 mb already. Yet the mail folder only takes 600 kb or so, but consumes several megabytes due to the fragmentation we've debated earlier.

I've made it a habit to master reset, format C: n reinstall stuff i need. i end up getting atleast 5 MB more than wht i started with... so aint there a solution? i dont wanna mess with the Mail folder coz i ended up having the SMS options in control panel greyed out!

One solution would be to have software such as S&W SMS installed on your memory stick, and let it automatically move all messages there. But the program isn't that good, and i would be a tad annoying being not able to use the flip. So far it, it seems that regular maintenance is the only way.

Clean it up with a master reset and than re-enter your sms settings.
