Those orange icons are something I did a while back in Photoshop - and moving them around caused the blocky backgrounds!
Here are better pictures (posted by another member):

those 3 icons are a like a desktop. orange got rid of shortcuts to see and to help they added icons which show if you have messages and calls. helps get to inbox, "orange world", new message, phonebook, and call list. it like it really.
