Yamigo is free and operates through the wireless village client built into the phone ie. My Friends.
I know the previous version of Yamigo had disabled MSN support on the K700i due to stability issues, don't know if this is fixed.
Been using Yamigo to talk to my MSN friends today on my T630 OK.
Yamigo is FREE!

You should be able to use the Series 40 applet.
SE have said before that their phones support the Nokia UI classes.

Is everyone confortable with releasing their MSN/Yahoo/etc sign-in credentials to third parties, as you would appear to have to do with cMessenger and Yamigo?

Yes, at
www.agilemobile.com - I cannot find the J2ME version at the moment, though. Last time I checked (a couple of weeks ago), the J2ME version was not free.
