I admit to using cracked versions of pc software in the past, only because as a poor student getting my hands on some of the software needed for Uni was easier that way. I think software for phones is made by smaller groups of people and the return is lower, so we should do our best to support them.

I only buy software if I find it useful, kinda like shareware back in the day. If I only wanna try it out or play with it to see how it works, I'll look for the cracked version.

I don't see the point in buying software that I'm not actually going to use; just examine and delete from my phone. That's why I prefer full-version, timed trials versus limited functionality trials.

The fact is that most people that search for cracks are the ones that would never buy the software.
Those are usually the same people that search for new versions of the software every day (just because it's fun), don't care much new bugs (because it's not critical software), and use the phone as a gadget rather than a tool, so they don't think the money spent in the software is worth the time they spend using the software.
And guess what, most of these persons bought the phone with great cost and don't have much money to spend in extras.
If they would never buy the software, then no one looses money.
p.s.: I'm a programmer, so I know the know the two sides of the coin

u're 100% right. i'm the one of 'these persons'. to be honest. but i do my best to support some developers by making mods (sman, im+, agilemessenger, magic themes, magic profiles pro) and try to gain developer's respect andget a free key if i *like* the software. yet sometimes i just use *easier* ways. i'm studying for a programer.

I've bought all my software, from Handango most of the time. I also prefer full-functionality trial versions.

Bear in mind though that a lot of people are able to get the phones quite cheap... the list prices of £500odd are ridiculous, buying on contract means that the phone is availale for half that price, maybe less...

The average flippy phone or whatever on pay as you go costs £100-£150, without taking in to consideration the amount of money you would spend on calls and texts during a year - with a contract all this is rolled in so it possibly can be cheaper for those who are aware that is...

As for the cracked software issue, then as said like any piracy I suppose it can stifle true innovation - and I agree with the chap who said that "demos" should be time restricted not feature restricted - there are surely many who have been caught with a program which turns out not to work fully as expected after trying a demo... that said, the price of the majority of software for the P900 is relatively cheap - although somehow i still begrudge paying £15-£20 for something to use on a mobile phone in principal at least, although when you take into account the fact that much time has presumably been spent developing it then that money can be well spent in such a small niche market...

There will, however, always be those who want everything for nothing, as opposed to the opportunists who are happy with getting just something for nothing...
