Multitap should not be required for typing words like can't and isn't.

Using T9 it should be entered using predictive punctuation. At least with later T9 implementations as seen in T9 demos and newish T68i sw.

In this case the punctuation key (# on T68) is used for entering a predictive punctuation. Thus for "can't" you enter 226#8 and this will suggest "can't" as first candidate.

This means it's also possible to enter words that include punctuation into the user dictionary. These include e.g. the set of smileys. So if you enter things like ":-)" into the dictionary they can be retrieved using T9 candidates by entering a word consisting of 3 predictive punctuations ###.

The user dictionary can also hold words that includes digits and upper case characters. So e.g. CUL8R can be added and retreived entering 28587.

BTW, one of the likely reasons that entering text using the T68 appears slow is that more characters are viewed on the display. Compared to some Nokia phones even "large text" on SE views more characters than Nokia. So switching to "large" can improve speed.

If you look at how it should works by Tegic (the developer of T9 predictive text imput), you’re absolutely right. However that’s definitely not the case with our T68…

All the things you’ve explain in your post doesn’t work with my T68m(i)… with T9 in french…

It’s really a shame to see software engineer so incompetent by , not even able to reuse properly a software already made by someone else…
It seems that they are much better by Siemens or Nokia, because by both of them, the apostrophe in T9 mode is working fine…

And if you perform a search on this forum, you’ll find that people are asking for a properly working T9 since more than 8 month…

Yes, I upgraded to R2E006 and now it is wonderfully simple to write can't and isn't! What a joy! I certainly don't regret that I started this thread! Thanks R2D2! -Jas This post was posted from a T68i

Hi Jas, so can I just confirm - you can now enter words like "can't" and "isn't" in the same way you can on Nokia ? ie can.t is changed automatically to can't ?

This one one of the worst weaknesses of the T68 in my opinion and if it's fixed then that's brilliant news!

Yes, in R2E006 it works. Punctuation is now "predictive".

It is the same problem on the R520.
Does anybody know, is it fixed in R4A?

@R2D2
If you’re right, and if it works in french also, that’s even a better news than the MMS update !!!

Whaooouuu, at least, after 8 month… my T68 will be “SMS friendly”… YEEESSSS !!!!!

I’ll go for the R2E006 as soon as possible…

That's not the end of it. For every software release, the SMS writing seems to have become slightly faster. The R2E006 is no exception. I actually hardly ever out-type the T9 under R2E006.
